not more holy, only able to discern between good and evil with the self control to choose right from wrong.

Being closer to God requires developing ones character guided by his inspiration. This will lead to a purer or more holy lifestyle and the strength to keep the demonic away from you. Listening to God's inspiration and following his word is easier when closer to God. Following God's message will help get you even closer to God.
