My friends dad used to train sevice dogs and he told me that if dogs dont pass the test that the people who raised and trained them get to choose if they want the dog and if they dont it gets adopted out to someone who wants a trained dog at this point the dog is 2 & 1/2yrs. old but the only reason it cant be a service dog is that something is wrong w/ it like it doesnt have all that good of vision or something. Should i send in a letter to get one of these dogs or get a pound dog?

I do volunteer work for a service organization. If a dog fails out of the program they are revaluated for another type of service they could better be suited for. It it is felt that the dog would not be suitable for any type of service it is then offered to the general public. However the waiting list is very long and usually the handler or the person who raised the dog previously has already shown an interest in aquireing the dog.
You can inquire in your area as the their waiting list for such a dog but be aware that your name will be on the bottom of their list. ok
You can start your search for any dog you think you'd like. Your local Humane Society is a great place but also consider a breed specific resuce too.
Best of luck!

Do you need a service dog? Are you handicapped?

If not, go check out the dogs in shelters or pounds.

I would try to find someone who does need a dog but can't afford the high price & adopt it out. Help the man find a home for this dog where it can be used as it was trained for.

If you can get one, it will be a well-trained animal, but demand is high and you may have to wait. Most puppy raisers take the dog back. Whereas a shelter dog you can find anytime and some of these are also well-trained.

Service dogs are great. They already have had great home life training and good people skills. All you have to do is not mess them up. Good plan.

there's a brilliant difference in what a medical care canines is and what a provider canines is... A medical care canines dose no longer have public get right of entry to! and only works under the intentions of supporting a place they are legally coated which includes a school, medical institution and such yet no the place else! A provider canines Aides a guy or woman with Disabilities with their disabilities. as a fashion to be legally coated for a SD, you may desire to be defined as Disabled. Then whilst coaching the canines to be the two State and federally coated in public places you may desire to be on their MI State ADA coach checklist. in case you haven't any longer knowledgeable a SD before please seek for a coach! you may touch the MI Civil Rights/DOJ to get the running shoes checklist information for running shoes. A canines in coaching isn't secure under the ADA/DOJ. and each state has it rather is very own rules regarding SD's in coaching.

That sounds like a good program but there are thousands of dogs in shelters. Check out Petfinder.com and look for your location, you can find a great pet on there, I did!
