I have mixed feelings about it, since it means drinking, good food and presents, but I worry about others who do these things in excess. The Mastercard and Visa is hot for the next year or two!!

I think Christmas is what you want to make of it. I love the church services and the music, and all the people that don't have a place to go. That is where I come in. My family are all out of state, so we invite all the homeless or people that have no where else to go. It can be stressful getting everything just right. but in the end it gives you a wonderful feeling. I think it is getting to commercialized though and people for get the true meaning of the Holiday. People tend to spend to much and end up paying for the rest of the year on items that aren't necessary. They try to out do the next person. That is not what Christmas is supposed to be all about. It is about the Birth of Christ our Lord. Well enough said I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I miss the Bell ringers also . They aren't even allowed to ring them at some stores any more. Sorry I didn't mean to get so long winded about it all. Have a very Happy and Blessed New year.

It's not a struggle so much as an endurance test. We breath a sigh of relief when the whole season is over and the normal insanity of this culture resumes.

I also checked out on all pagan holidays 27 years ago and only keep YHVH's days per Leviticus 23 and they are a joy.

The holidays are a struggle for me, as it seems like the commercialization of holidays erodes any true joy more and more, year after year. The shopping and the social interaction are stressful as well, and some families fight. The phenomenon of celebration has become so formulaic, so contrived, so affected, that it's like get-togethers are more like social obligations than actual celebrations. We should get back to the root of what it means to collectively celebrate rather than to run these traditions into the ground.

Its mixed for me too because my old traditions died when my grandfather passed away a couple years back.
But I am trying to start my own with my young children(6,3,and2 years old)and husband of 10 years.
We had a wonderful time the past two days.

Christmas is so bittersweet for me.

My step-grandpa got ran over by a drunk driver (RIP two X-mas's ago), walking home to his house Christmas Day ... you may say there's no need for DUI's, but as for me & grandma ... we belive.

Still I do love the Chruch, and this year I was in the choir. It was a blissful Chrismas for me; except for the grief my step-mother still has ... I was afraid to say "Merry Christmas" so instead, I just told her I loved her and was praying for her healing during this time.

I have qualms about consumerism in the holidays too -- people buying each other crap they don't need. We don't do big gift exchanges because it's seldom that we're all in the same state at once. We don't want to waste it shopping.

The true holy days (YHVH's days) are a joy. Pagan days are a trial. I cancelled my participation in the Saturnalia many years ago. You can too.

The true BIBLICAL holy days outlined in the 23rd chapter of Leviticus are WONDERFUL!

The christian holidays are a non-issue.

well, i can't help but notice that holidays are a bit different for me than they are for my husband. things go along pretty much as they usually do for him. for me there's a lot more cleaning, cooking and shopping. i can't help but envy him his ease as i'm scurrying around trying to make nice nice for everyone.
