This would be a very convenient appliance for a remote location in a house or a building. This would have to be a separate circuit by itself because of the wattage. So most definitely not a "spur of the moment" purchase, because it would need a little planning ahead to install an additional circuit box and additional water supply piping (plus insulation). I can imagine somebody who'll greatly benefit this appliance has some trouble (or just lazy enough, LOL) walking up or down towards the main kitchen.

Having spent 3 years in NYC - paying through my nose for a studio that was just big enough to hold a full size bed and a small TV stand and not much more I can sure see how useful this would be.

I think they're great! They're excellent for dorm rooms and other areas with severely limited space.
As to other answers - nothing new about electricity next to water (or doesn't that answerer have a disposal unit or dishwasher???). If it's properly grounded, it's not dangerous in the least. Ditto for the stove/fridge combo - with the right insulation, it works nicely.

These have been around for over 30 years, used in "Kitchenets" in Motels all across the Country.

I've seen bigger jewelry. Just what you want, the heating elements right on top of your refrigeration unit. Can you say electricity right next to water, that's a great idea? I'm surprised that this unit is even legal.
