When you are summoned as a regular juror, I'm almost positive that it is mandatory to show up, am I correct?

I live in Milwaukee, WI if that helps

Ok I worded that horribly, and I made myself sound like an idiot!

What I meant was, I know that if you a reserve that you do not always have to show up. But rather, being a regular juror means you have to show up, right?

If you are summoned for jury duty, as far as I understand it, you must call to see if you need to show up. If you are told to show up at the courthouse, then it is indeed mandatory to come. From there, you may or may not be chosen to serve on the jury, based on an evaluation you fill out and other factors.

Each state has its own laws but in general they are similar. I had a jury duty summons last year and there were quite a few that didnt show up, and some that did attempted to come up with reasons to be excused.
The judge did not accept most of the reasons.
The case I was summoned for was a rape case and after asking us all questions they did dismiss people who had been raped or were somehow involved in a rape case or new the defendent etc etc... other than things like that there are very few reasons they are going to excuse you from being a juror.

You have to answer the summons or you are breaking the law.

Different Jurisdictions handle jury service in different ways.

In Los Angles:
1. you call in and voice mail gives you a group

2. you call in each day to find out if you have to go to court.

3. If the call-in tells you to go to court then you go.

4. If you get on a jury your done after one trial. If you don't get on a Jury you're done.

I don't know how they do it in Milwaukee, WI. The court probably has a website search for it.
