The part of the body that is being examined must be centered to the magnetic field ( the center of the scanner). You will be placed on the scanner table feet first.with your foot in some sort of coil. The coil receives the signal given of my your hydrogen molecules to create the images of your foot. You foot should be snugly secured to help with holding it still. No movement is the most important thing you can do for your scan quality. Even a little motion can cause blurry pictures. I include a link below that has a picture about half way down the page that shows a patient with the knee coil on their leg. Depending on the machine you will be in the machine to approximately mid thigh. To make your scan quicker and easier on you make sure not to wear any metal if you can than you will not even have to change clothes. Your pockets will need to be empty and no jewelry should be left on with the possible exception of wedding rings that can't come off. If you have a bad back you may want to consider taking what ever you take for pain normally, mine always gets sore from laying in one position for 45 minutes. You should do fine with a foot scan it's one of the easiest that we do from the patients view point. I looked for a picture of a person having a foot MRI and came up empty.

in the old days you'd go all the way in but if you are going to have it done at a medical facility that has newer equipment it will just be your foot.

I had a cervical spine injury so I've had several of MRI and even going in 'the tube' it really isn't a big deal. They will ask you prior to going in if you would like a Valium if you feel nervous about it.

I had to have an MRI on my back and I went all the way in, but My thoughts on your foot will be just your foot, I am guessing that you will sit backwards for maybe they well send you all the way through but you head will stick out the other side.
