It takes some time, like 6-12 months, depending on how well you adhere to treatment/therapy that is prescribed.

Best of luck

I'm sorry but I don't think depression is cureable.

My mom has depression and it had such a negaitive effect on my family beacuse she was so disconnected. It was very difficult for her to do simple things like get out of bed and take a shower for days at a time. She never went to the doctors because she didn't think anything was wrong with her.

I consider myself a happy gal - but there are days where I feel very depressed, unmotivated, and emotional for no reason. Because depression is heridatary I have to really take control of those habits and push myself even harder and acknowledge my body and emotions. It really helps to find an exersice that you enjoy doing - push yourself to do it. It activates the "happY" hormone - endorphones in your brain. Since I have be exposed with depression and fight it so it doesn't become worst, I have opened up to a close friend - so if I need an extra push or pull I can count on that person for support. It is also important to eat healthy foods. Eating well will make your moods stable and your body will feel good.
Oh sluggish days where gettin up and brushing your teeth is difficult - get out of bed open your blinds and go for a walk 15 minutes at least. Even if you are in your pjs. Don't worry - you are taking control of your life. You can really overcome depression now that you know what that akward feeling is.

Stay strong - its worth it! "Pursite Your Happiness" Good Luck!

Hi--I have depression and anxiety. I was diagnosed Sep. 2006. I still have it and still try to committ suicide on a regular basis. I see sombody once a week (out-patient) and I have been in lockdown inpatient 3 times, and Residential treatment once. Getting over a mental illness isn't likely, unfortunately. You have to be able to manage it to feel better. I am also on meds, and have been on a lot in the past..they usually help. Think of an alcoholic. Even if they go in for treatment and are sober, they still have the disease. They just know how to manage it. ( AA meetings, etc.) Its all about managing it. That could mean therapy or meds for a while.

I wish you the best! Good Luck and Take Care!

It depends (really). There are a number of factors. Some get over situational depression in a matter of months, and some are depressed for years. Was there a cause for your depression, or have you always had symptoms? If you are on meds, you will have better luck with a combo of that and therapy. You can use fish oil (omega-3) to help, as well as B vitamins, and physical activity such as swimming. Do NOT rely on meds alone!

Over the last five years I had begun to have increasingly withdraw into a downward spiral of depression..

But now with the method I can fully focus my energy and thoughts into a decisive line on how to make my life better constantly. And it works like magic! I'm beginning to attract people to me once again and things have just been looking up since then.

Helping you eliminate depression?

Technically it lasts forever. It is a very serious disease. You will always be in "remission" (like with cancer)--you will never be cured because it COULD "come back," but it can be held at bay. More than 50% of people who are depressed will have another depressive episode in their lifetime.

I was diagnosed 25 years ago. Clinical depression is due to a lack of neurochemicals, that never changes. With medications and therapy, I have been successful at managing the symptoms.

it is different for every person. depends on how well you react to treatment, whether you get counselling, what happens while youre being treated (eg if you have a very stressful time its going to take longer...)
there is no way to predict exactly how long it will take. but it will always end!!

I've been in it since Jan. of 02. I've had a few quick breaks in between.
It's different for everyone though. It could be weeks, months or years.
