Component cables aren't specific to any console or electronic component. You can use component cables on any device that has the color-coded inputs.

LOL.. but component cables for a DVD player won't work with a console.

I think the question was will PS2 component cables work on a PS3. Read: PS2 connector

Valid question as the 40gig PS3 only comes with those lousy RCA connectors, so it's of little use if you want to see anything nice.

Nevertheless, the anser is "Yes". The connector AV pinouts or the PS2 match the PS3. It was one of the early concerns for the PS3 in 2006. Sony doesn't advertise this, as they would like you to buy brand new cables for your brand new PS3, but I am sure they have it hidden in a FAQ somewhere.

Yes, any component (red,green,blue) video cables will work with the PS3 for 1080i, or 720p but keep in mind unlike HDMI you will also need to hook up audio (red,white) cables as well.
