My 3 month old dachshund likes to pull on the leash and I try to teach her to walk nicely but obviously it's not going to happen over night. Two nights ago we took her back inside and realized there was some blood spot on her wee wee pad so we thought it can't be her period she's still too young! We discovered a scrape like injury on her two paw pads on her hind legs. They don't look serious and she still runs around without a problem so all I did was wash them with soap and water and dipped her feet in hydrogen peroxide. The first night she was ok then last night we did the same thing after her walk and she just started crying! Within a few minutes she was ok and running around again. Am I doing the right thing or should I be bandaging her feet? What are some remedies I can do without taking her to the vet (we have an appointment on Saturday so I wanna wait).

Thanks for all your help!

I am NOT dragging her. She runs and pulls on the leash but I can only walk so fast to catch up with her she just pulls and pulls hard.

The scrapes are very small you can barely see them, my concern really is infection because she does run around quite a bit and loves going out for her walks. She's not limping or crying and you would never know that anything was wrong other than the tiny blood spots on the wee wee pads.

I will lay off the peroxide and just continue to keep her pads clean. I'll try putting some bandage on and hope she doesn't eat it (because she eats EVERYTHING!!). Thanks for all the info!

Also, I do know they go in 'heat'. Period was just the first thing that came up. Sorry.

Call the vet and ask what you can do until your appointment on saturday.

You might have to clean them regularly with warm water and NON ANTIBACTERIAL soap. This is if the cuts are open and not scabbing.

Lay off the Hydrogen Peroxide as it can prevent healing and kill healthy tissue.

And dogs don't get periods. They go into heat.

Leave off the hydrogen peroxide. That's an acid and can burn her feet. Give her a break from the walk for a time to heal. How are her feet getting hurt to start with. Are you pulling her to make her walk??? that's a NO> NO> Put some type of cream on her feet for a few days so the pads don't get dried out. Even vaseline will be OK. I use a lotion called Gloves in a bottle.

Give her some encouragement to walk but don't drag her. Take a treat or to and get her to follow the nose.

Getting her to the vet is the ideal suggestion absolutely everyone would desire to offer you in this occasion... it would desire to be something from allergic reaction to any between the wellness subject concerns others have commented on. As for the potty preparation. maximum dachshund doggies relatively do no longer catch directly to consistant potty preparation till 5 - 7 months. i'm a dachshund rescuer and have 4 of my very own (3 I even have raised from doggies and the different I housebroke as an grownup) - without understanding your incredibly residing situation and the preparation you're doing now it is perplexing to offer suggestion. Getting her healthful is the main severe ingredient... potty preparation will take place after she is healthful.

You also have to be careful because the tissue in the pads is brittle, and an injury can get much worse if it's constantly traumatized. It will probably heal on its own if you make sure she's not rough on her paws. Keep her off pavement and ice.

Go to the feed store and get some Cut-Heal and Vet-wrap. Put the medicine on the paws and wrap (not too tightly) with the vet wrap - but the pup may gnaw it off.

keep it clean and try a small dab of Neosporin three times a day instead of the pyroxide. in a week or two (at the most) she'll be just fine, unless you see a redness or swelling that would signal infection.

well the paw pads help tthe dog out alot. they protect dogs wen walkin on rough surfaces and hot or cool suraces. injuring the paw pad can be bad but not all the time its horrible. ur dog might be lucky. its onli little rite? i think shes gonna absolutly fine! ♣

I would call the vet and ask what you should do for her until your appointment.
