Our home uses propane for heat and cooking. When we bake in our oven, everything comes out tasting a little bit like the smell in the propane. Usually deserts don't have this taste, but casseroles and pizzas and such do. Does this happen a lot, or are the settings on our oven not right? Any advice would be great. Thanks a ton.

This is not normal and possibly dangerous. If the propane tank is running on empty, you will smell it. Otherwise, get them to check that the orifice is set properly for propane and not natural gas. There is a difference.

Hi Rain,
We also use propane- and I haven't noticed this at all. I would have it checked to be sure. We don't have a propane tank here- it is a community tank for our development.

Good luck to you!

Check that the flames are a clear blue colour.
If there is any yellow, you may have the wrong type burner.
Either way, the smell should not be getting into the food.
Have the oven checked for leaks.

I've baked with a lot of gas ovens and this is a new one to me. You might have something going on like too much gas pumping in. If you're not handy enough to turn down the gas than have someone come in and fix it because it seems like that could lead to problems.

That sounds dangerous. I would ask at a store like Best Buy or better yet, call your propane company and check with them.

It probly wouldn't hurt to get tested for carbonmonoxide, to make sure there is not a leak. And you can always ask the place where you get your propane, or where you got your stove to make sure the settings are what they should be.
