but they jammed the remote in the vcr, cut the christmas tree in half, put the kids toothbrushes in the toliet, poured lotion all over the floor, and etc. They broke in during the night and had plenty of time to wreck stuff but took only two things. Does it seem like this was a crime of hate or a typical break in? When we walked in, it looked like whoever did it was pissed and took the xbox and dvd player as an after thought to make it look like a robbery. They also cut the phone line from the outside and took out a good amount of the line so it would be hard to repair. What are your veiws? Regular break in or should we be worried for her and my nephews safety because this was a break in with hate?

I doubt this was a "hate crime", unless they gave someone a real good reason to hate them.

Sounds to me like young kids. They only took what was of use to them.

The damage can probably be attributed to their sick idea of entertainment.

If you are looking for a suspect, you can start by asking your nephew who he told about the X-Box.

The owner of the building normally has some requirement to help maintain security. Most of the laws are state laws, some are local laws, and a few are in your contract. If you get no quick help from your letting agency, then talk to your local government. There will likely be an agency at City Hall or your Justice of the Peace that will help you. The police may know who you can call.

2 possibilities here:

1) It was kids (young-teen to early 20's) being destructive to someone they may or may not know, just wanting to inflict as much damage as possible and make it as crappy as possible for the victim.

or

2) Your family was "targeted" by someone they knew who was really pissed and getting revenge for something, real or imagined.

That level of damages could fit for either scenario. I have seen these type of crimes for both scenarios and maybe your nephew could shed some light on this subject for the benefit of his family and their peace of mind.......not saying it is his fault but if he can think of anyone who is pissed off at him or who said anything threatening to him recently it might help.

It sounds like someone they know did this. This was done on purpose. Typical thieves want to get in and get out, they don't have time to mess around like that. I would be a bit worried for your nephews. Check into who they hang out with.

from what that you wrote it sounds to me like someone hates her a lot to do all of that. a normal break in would have just taken things and not destroyed everything it would just have looked ramsacked. i would be alittle worried and get some kind of a security system. be worried!

I agree with Trooper3. This is vandalism with a small theft. Sounds like kids. Bet it is someone she/he knows also. She probably told someone what was there so they broke in and took it.

Who did you piss off?!?

Sounds like someone who knows the family/family members
---someone who knew routine,
---acts seem personal, not exactly hate but mischievous or vindictive
