Wait . . . wait. You said "the same sort of affection that would be perfectly acceptable with a boyfriend." As long as it's not sexual, it would still be okay and would be acceptable. When you say "in love" you probably mean something else. You can certainly be in love with someone of the same sex, would do anything for them. Share your innermost thoughts. Hold hands. Cuddle. That's all okay. But when you are tempted to touch your same-sex friend sexually, then it's supposed to be a sin. You've crossed the line. My dear, I don't care if you have the most amazing sex with whomever or whatever you want. In fact, it makes me happy to know that there is other happiness in this world. So, you're asking Christians to interpret the dicta from an age of superstition. This is where Christians get into trouble. So, what I'm saying is that it's all good, and there is no excuse in this day and age, what with the cornucopia of information available over the Internet at the tips of your fingers, to champion superstition. Interestingly enough, though, as you have surmised, this category, for the most part, tries to do just that. Champion superstition.

I think trueisrael covered it pretty well.
There is nothing wrong with two women who love each other like sisters or two men who love each other like brothers.
The problem is when two of the same sex decide to act on that love like God had intended only a Man and a Woman to do. When God created man he made Adam & Eve not Adam & Steve or Ava & Eve. When Noah built the ark and filled it with animals he took one male & one female. Dumb animals are intelligent enough to get it right. Ying/Yang Positive/Negative Male/Female. The end times are approaching as many have said and the choices that people have made and will make will result in their eternal home. So it is written so it will be done.
Love is holy & virtueous but lust and sex between two of the same gender is what is deemed unholy.

The Christian Church don't have much space for gays, that's true.
The reason the Christian Church condemns homosexuality is because they believe that God made a man (Adam) and a woman (Eve). The Church believes that God designed men and women so that they could reproduce together (hence the Christian Church are not fond of contraceptives either). They consider homosexuality unnatural because all that is obtained from homosexual sex is pleasure (there is no chance of creating new life from it).
I don't agree with this view, but I go to a Catholic High School. In Year 7, in the subject of PDHPE (Personal Development, Health and Physical Education), when we were learning about sex, the teacher told the class what I have written above (although perhaps she didn't say it in such detail!).
I hope this helps.

God created man and woman to be together, and that's what it says in the Bible, God's Holy Word. Only the union of husband and wife is Holy matrimony. The "some" who deem same sex marriage unholy are the ones who OBEY GOD'S WORD. And He is the One we need to OBEY, not ourselves and what we feel. It's about what God has deemed Holy or unholy, not people. God is the only one righteous to do that.

This whole gay thing is so ridiculous. I don't believe
people "choose" to be gay any more than they "choose"
to be heterosexual. Something in the xx/xy chromosomes
got short circuited and didn't come out quite right. They are
gay because they were engineered to be gay. Maybe God
got something wrong there.
Consider people who were gay and who must have been
plagued by it in trying to keep it hidden. Rock Hudson is
one of them. I would never have guessed that he was gay.
Maybe the bible does say it is an abomination, but there are
some people in religion arguing that point.
I think the bible also says "judge not lest ye be judged".
Oh, by the way, I am straight but tolerant.

Love is one of the only things in this world that is actually free, and should be able to be had by EVERYONE with WHOMEVER they choose.
Everyone puts their faith in the Bible and how it says certain things and that we should use it as a guide to live our lives by, but how do we really trully know where it even came from? How do we know that it's any different than a common old story such as Beowulf or sonnets written by Shakespeare? No one was there when it was all written, so I think that's the "catch" with it, you'll never really know, but you just have to blindly believe. I'm agnostic, so I'm not trying to totally eliminate the idea of God, but people today paint this picture of him, and it makes it look like he could be hateful and cruel. But if there is a God out there, I refuse to believe that he is like that. Sorry about the ranting, but I had to let it out...oh and my sister is a lesbian, and I refuse to believe that what her and her partner share is an abomination. I think it's beautiful.
oh...and as for the people who say "God said so," how do you know God said so? Is this one of the topics you two talk about when you join him for tea and cookies every Tuesday? sheesh...c'mon

The Bible neither states or intimates that love is either holy or virtuous, sorry. So, when 'it' is shared with what the Bible deems as an abomination and the Bible says that no abomination shall enter into New Jerusalem ..... Why don't you study the Scriptures?

Well if you read Leviticus in the Bible it expressly says that laying with a man as with a woman is an abomination and should not be done. This would mean that same sex relationships that involve sex are an abomination. I don't believe in god so you are free to love whatever you want.

Because some people are so close-minded. Society still isn't fully accepting of same-sex love and therefore same-sex couples will be experiencing this type of judgement for awhile to come. I don't think it'll ever disappear but when my generation comes to be in their 50's I think it'll be a little more accepting since we're growing up with this. Our parents didn't grow up seeing two women or two men together, so it's only natural for them to think it's "wrong". You really can't blame them.

When you say "Love", what exactly do you mean? The concept of love? I don't think the concept of love is deemed unholy...
