I'm a fruitcake lover too, so I never got the jokes. Maybe most of the people who make jokes about fruitcake haven't tried it.

In the United States, the fruitcake has been a ridiculed dessert. Some blame the beginning of this trend with Tonight Show host Johnny Carson. He would joke that there really is only one fruitcake in the world, passed from family to family. Carson is no longer alive but the tradition lived on with "The Fruitcake Lady" (Marie Rudisill), who made appearances on the show and offered her "fruitcake" opinions.

The kind of fruitcake sold in places like Walmart is really bad. Anyone who has eaten a real fruitcake will never again joke about this fantastic food.

Not a thing. Good fruit cake is very moist and rich with butter and candied fruit. I think most people just haven't had good fruit cake. It definitely should not be dry or hard to cut.

the calories - too many. but it's good. don't care for the candied pineapple & pick those out b4 eating. but i really like the cakes with a lot of pecans like the ones from collin street bakery.

fruit cake has tough dough because in the making of, it takes a lot of kneading, most people don't like this tough texture, and the fruit is too tangy to match this "cake"
