If you feed them dry food, shake the bag when you call them and if you feed them wet food, hit the can with a spoon when you call them and my daughter guarantees they'll come a running.

My cat did like to play hide and seek since she was a kitten. Now when I call where is the Kitty I can't find her. She'll come on the spot.
She will also come if I say let's feed the kitty ( it is always the same time every day.)
I call her by name only if I have a treat in the hand for her.
Don't over do it or she'll ignore you.
Remember a cat only responds to some thing that she is interested in. Dogs will come when ever you call.Good Luck; Es

Ha! Cats train you to come when they call!

The best bet is to call her name when she is a few feet away and then give her a treat. Keep spreading out the distance.

Two of my cats come when I call, but they do that of their own accord. The other comes when I sit down because there may be food or petting involved. In my past life I had no cats who came when called. It's the luck of the draw.

Some cats like clicking sounds. Like a snapping of the fingers, clicking of the tongue. Mine does. I also call her name and then click at the same time, then when she comes give her positive attention. Mine comes running like a dog when I call her. She's always been like that. But I've had other cats that just stare at me and don't move which is more natural cat behavior. Good luck!

Some cats cannot be trained to "come". They are not like dogs. They are very independent and most of the time will come to you when they feel like it but not at your command.

The Pavlovian way. Call kitty and when (s)he comes running, give him/her a snack treat. Eventually, kitty will almost always come. (No way to guarantee a 100% response. This is a cat, not a dog. :^) )

Give it a cat treat every time it comes near you when call it's name. It will soon learn to come when called.

Whenever you feed it call its name over and over so that it associates that sound with something positive. whenever you pet it or do anything nice to it say it's name. I don't think there is any reason for baby talk as a lot of people seem to do with their cats.

Repetitiveness.

I dont know how, but I know its possible. My neighbor trained his cats to wipe their feet on the front door mat before they came in.

Its hard to train cats though, and frusturating (according to him) but you need patience, becasue they can learn.
