Question for any one?
The words that are written plainly in the bible. Why do pastors explain it like its written in a riddle. They go to the greek bible do all this research like it takes a scholar to figure it out/ alot of it is commonsense.
Answer: I agree that the Scriptures mean what they say and say what they mean. Amen
The prophecies is the only thing and the bible that is written in a mystery.

I can only speak to the "English" translations... many of which are not so good...In my opinion... however most of us are not qualified to study in the original languages The Bible texts were wrtitten in...we have to rely on trusting others to do that research... to only rely on the English words is not fully "knowing" The Bible... I make no claim to know the "original texts"... but I do know that they were written using over 11,000 individual words... when translated into English there are only about 6,000 individual words... clearly some things are lost in the translation... I would only recomend Two English "versions"... The 1611 King James and The New American Standard(updated)... because I believe, based on some limited personal study, that the scribes working on those versions made the best effort, including much prayer, to make the best try at getting the best English word or phrase to match the original...with out too much political correctness... The PC issue has always been an issue regardless of the language... man always has to try to insert his own pov into it... here is a link to a page on The Bible I have on my website... it will give you a different pov on the subject.

I once heard a sermon about the differences between the Holy Ghoust and the Holy Spirit.
The poor pastor didn't realize that King James had a bit of the Bible translated at Oxford and the other bit translated at Cambridge!

You're right. There are very solid surface meanings to a lot of scriptures.
But good theology is like good poetry: the meanings widen and deepen the more you think about it.
Research into the original languages isn't necessary to get inspiration and education from scripture, but no 2 languages match up word for word and concept for concept. If you want to get deeper meanings and more accurate cultural information about any one Bible passage, looking at the original languages is helpful.
Like I said, it's not necessary. It's just a more in depth study. It's like if the surface meanings are a delicious peanut butter and jelly sandwich, the deeper meanings are 12oz t-bones. Yum.

The Bible is not filled with common sense, that is why a lot of people reject it - because it does not make sense in the grand scheme of things.
Try reading 'The Talmud Jmmanuel' text - and you will see a biblical text that makes more common sense than the Bible text you know...

Sometimes, the english verision is not enough since it's translated from Greek and Hebrew. Some connotations and meanings can be lost during the translation so it's better to go back to the original writing.

Because the Greek translation is the original.
Sometimes its easier to understand how someone paraphrased the Bible by going to the original text. Its called Hermenuitics.

I agree with you that if you have God's Holy Spirit and a sincere heart, that is enough to understand the plain sense of Scripture. However I have also learned that the deeper you dig, the more nuggets of truth you can discover.
Only don't be found "straining out a gnat and swallowing down a camel". Concentrate on what matters most - love, faith, humility, holiness.

There are many layers to the word of God.....The Holy Spirit will allow you to discern it differently every time you read it. Pastors rely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit to help them with the interpretation of the word for the sermon to their flock.
