My boyfriend and I have been together for 3 1/2 years. (I am 24, he is 26). I have been on BC since before I met him. We have recently moved in together, and are engaged to be married in 2009.

I am not ready for kids, at this point in my life; howerver, could I get your opinion on BC. Do you think I'm crazy? I'm on BC, and I ask him to use a condom, am I being too careful? Am I strange for doing this? How many other people use both??

Thanks!

Neither are 100% percent effective. The most effective form of all birth control is abstineance. the second most effective form is taking a drug (BC) and using a condom. It takes you as close to 100% as you are going to get. If your not ready for kids, dont take any extra chances. Using both is actually fairly common, for a combined reason of birth control and for STD issues. But even if for only BC, still the best route to go is to use the combo.

My Cousin and her fiance did the same thing because neither BC nor Condoms are 100%. I Dont think you are crazy at all. Especially if you are not ready for a kid. I Had an unexpected Pregnancy and Lord knows I Wish I Had Been On BC and Had him use a condom. The Safer The Better I Think. Besides it shouldnt matter what other people think, trust me, if you were to get Pregnant before you were "ready" you would still love that child unconditionally. But in the mean time, like I said, neither BC nor Condoms are 100% effective. So do what you got to do.

Using BC and a Condom, that is like a female using a vaginal condom and the male using a penis condom. It just doesn't work well. Not that there isn't anything wrong with using BC and a condom, especially if you don't know if your partner has anything. But if you are planning on staying on BC for a while, and you are sure he has no STDs, then I think you can let your guard down a little bit and allow him to have intercourse without the condom. Simply because BC is I believe, around 99% effective in preventing pregnancy.

I think you are doing the right thing. If you aren't ready for children yet, then make sure your chances of getting a child are really low. Condoms are faulty sometimes, and BC isn't 100% effective either. So, using both sounds like a very logical thing to do. Besides, if your boyfriend doesn't mind, then there is no issue here.

I'm on bc and use condoms. I am a mother of two already and do not wish for more at the time. I dont think you can ever be too safe. It it makes you feel better to do both, then do it.
In the past I was on the shot alone and I never got preggers while on the shot.

Your being careful which is smart and I commend you for that! But most people who are in a committed mongamous relationship and who have also been tested for STD's discontinue their use of condoms. Being that you have been on BC means that it would be a miracle (which could happen, by the way) if you got pregnant. Some women are that fertile that they get pregnant on birth control, but it usually happens when your not careful about taking your birthcontrol consistantly. It's a personal choice. My boyfriend of 5.5 years doesn't use a condom since I'm on the nuva ring.

No, if you're not ready for a child, then using both is a good thing. Condoms do not always work and BC is just another precaution. If one screws up theres a backup. It's perfectly normal and It's a very safe thing to do. Don't worry about it, you are not strange.

There's no such thing as being too careful when it comes to things that could have such a major impact on your life. Children are wonderful, but if you're not ready then you're not ready--take the necessary precautions until then. Lots of other people use both, you're not strange at all.

Congratulations, by the way. (^^,) I hope you two will be very happy together and will have healthy, happy kids--when you're both ready. (^^,)

You're not crazy!! If you're not ready for kids then you can never be too careful!!! many women still get preg using birth control only...including my mother who got preg with my sister while on birth control!! And I'm sure you know that there are still risks with condoms only!!! So I'd say rather too safe than an unplanned baby!!!

Your not being crazy. Even while on birth control you still have a chance of getting pregnant. Those chances are upped when he isn't using a condom and if he cums inside of you. If your not ready for kids, dont take the chance!
