Puppies usually play FLAT OUT. They expend a lot of energy in the games. Resting is a good thing. You get to rest also.
If his sleeping get excessive you may need to have his blood sugar checked. If you think he is sleeping too much mix up some syrup and water and put it in a dropper and squeeze some in his mouth. He he responds pretty quickly to the perk-me-up then he probably has an insulin problem and you need the vet.

At this stage it is perfectly normal for your puppy to refrain from exercise. In fact, excessive amounts of exercise is discouraged for puppies under 12 months of age until the joints are fully set. Besides puppies grow at a fast rate and need a great deal of rest just as human infants require lots of sleep and naps.

at 8 weeks or so, it is normal for a puppy to alternate between sleep and play periods. you didnt say if puppy is a small or large breed. small terrier type breeds play for longer periods than a larger breed. but as puppy gets older he should be awake for longer periods of time. sleeping at nite is great and his daytime sleep could vary on how much time you spend with him and how much you play with him. if this continues, i would definitely take him to the vet and ask the vet to be sure there is nothing medically wrong, like blood diseases, worms, etc. spend the extra for a good quality pet food like science diet or iams.

18 hours a day is pretty normal. His bladder will probably only hold for as many hours as he is months old +1. So a three-month old pup will have to pee every 4 hours. That will usually, but not always, be followed by a snack, a sip, some play and more snoozing.

Sounds pretty normal to me. In a little while when he wants to play ALL the time you'll be wishing for the good old days when you got a break.

Very normal. He has to rest up to grow! You don't mention breed but the larger he is, the longer this may go on. Should grow out of it soon and you'll be wishing he would sleep more! LOL!
