It's not weird at all. Actually, in the Philippines, that is the usual thing to do. Put salt on Pineapples and Watermelons. It adds flavor and makes the fruit tastier.

OF COURSE NOT. Have you ever been in Mexico? We put salt, lemon and chili in most of the fruits (watermelon, mangoes, melon, green apples, pineapples, etc) personally I don't like any flavors mixed (swwet&spicy, sweet&salty) but here it's a popular most-do, people LOVE it. You'll find a guy selling this type of 'cocktails' in every corner!

No it's not weird at all. In fact I've heard salt and pepper on watermelon is delicious. I've never tried it yet.

No, salt enhances the flavors of items particularly those that are sweet.

People commonly put salt on tomatoes and in cookie recipes. There are also chocolate dipped pretzels, etc.

NO!! Not at all. I put it on my watermelons and honeydew all the time. I don't care for pinapples much though. Not weird at all. A lot of people in Florida do it. (thats where I got it from)

I put salt on watermelon all the time. I've never tried it on pineapple, but I will.

I love melon with freshly cracked pepper. It's delicious!

edit: Freshly cracked black pepper works the best. You will not believe how it enhances the flavor of melon!
