If I live my life for a god, how he wants, what he wants, when he wants, which is an assumption based on my specific interpretation, with the fear of eternal damnation, knowing that others around me, people I care for, will be damned, not knowing if I've been good enough, not knowing if I may have committed the unforgivable sin, not knowing if I've committed a sin and that I haven't yet asked for forgiveness, perhaps I die in an accidental way and haven't had a chance to ask for forgiveness for my recent sin, I will miss this life. What could be more terrifying than 'believe this and live this way or suffer terribly for eternity?' Nothing. That is the ultimate example of bondage.
