Best wishes to the both of you!

My husband (of nearly 30 years now) and I were engaged for 6 months. We just picked a day - no special reason.

My son and his wife were engaged for three months. That was because he knew he'd be deploying soon and they wanted to have time together before he left. (They're both Marines.) They chose the specific day because it had meaning to them.

Whatever date you choose, I hope that day will be only the beginning of a long life of love together. It will always be special because it's the day you were married!

Congrats!!!!!
What an exciting time!

We got engaged in August '07 and have set our date for September 20th 2008. There were a few reasons.
1) We are paying for everything ourselves and we needed some time to save.
2) That weekend falls in between all the hunting seasons here in Tennessee. We are trying to avoid future conflicts with anniversary's. =0)
3) We both agreed that we wanted to get married out doors so we wanted to avoid the heat of the summer months for everyones comfort.
4) We started dating a couple days after Valentines day and neither one of us wanted to wait until February. (plus we wanted to avoid the cheesiness of a Valentines wedding)

So we really just picked a date that made the most sense for our families and ourselves.
Hope that helps. And Congratulations again!!!!

it can vary greatly, usually pick a day other than his birthday or yours, or Christmas, than go from there, usually take at least a year to plan, figure out if some people that must be there are a work or school during the "big event" find out if the venue is available on the day you would like and they will help you with the date. I picked 07/07/07 but could not because of other responsibilities, then I choose 09/01/07 and that was better than the millions that choose that date.

Congrats.

I got engaged August 6, 2007. We chooses June 21, 2008 because its the first offical day of summer, our favorite time of year. Since we're both students and work, summer is the perfect time for us and to have a wedding in Michigan!

Congratulations!

My engagement was a little bit different then the typical. I was 25 and my now husband was 32 at the time - we had met through his sister, who approached me in a nail salon and said I'd be perfect for her brother and insisted I take his email address. I wrote to him, he wrote back, a week later we met for dinner. A month later he asked me to go ring shopping and 3 months after that he proposed. My mom asked me that we take our time and extend the engagement so we got engaged at the end of 2003 and got married near the end of 2005. It worked out so well....just take your time and have fun right now - it's truly the best!

My fiance and I chose February 13, 2009, because we started dating on a Friday the 13th and we wanted to carry that over into our wedding. There is a Friday the 13th in June of next year, but we're mostly paying for everything ourselves and we wanted some time to save, so we picked the one after that. :-)

well, we decided that we wanted to get married the following summer. and then we picked 6-21-08 because our anniversary is on 6-12. but then we found out that some good aquaintances of ours had already booked that day so we decided to change ours to 7-5-08. and i am so happy that we made the change. i am happy that we are getting married on a holiday weekend!
congrats!

We just decided that it would be a year from our first date. Every special moment we shared together was on the 11th, so we got as close to a weekend day as we could that fell on the 11th and it just so happened that it was a year from when we started dating!

it's whatever you want! :)
i got engaged on july 4th of 06 and was married june 1st of 07. i knew i wanted an early summer wedding, and i knew i wanted it on a friday night. i didn't really care too much about dates. i called the church where i wanted to get married, and june 1st was the only day available.
one thing though...if i could change anything, we would have chosen to get married sooner. the 11 month engagement was torture for us. it really depends on who you are and what you want, but i would say a 6th month engagement is perfect! :)

Congrats! Wow, I would have killed your bf if he was mine, to not have proposed in private!
However, where we were living, we got married in eight months, because that was the time needed to book the priest and church, caterer and venue. Chose a summer date because I was teaching and would not be in school.
