Jesus created the world under the direction of the Father. Without the fall, His atonement would not have been required. Without the fall, there would be no death, and so the resurrection would not be needed.

Christianity had to invent Satan during the middle ages to deal with the fact that so many bad things were happening to faithful followers (black plague, famine, etc...). Unfortunately, they originally based his image on a Pagan god of fertility. So now the Christians had a powerful arch nemesis as well as an Earthly people to hate and kill without reason.
I would love to see Christianity remove their Satan from their mythology but sadly they seem to give Satan more and more power everyday by blaming him for their woes instead of taking responsibility for their lives and what happens within them.
Edit: Additionally, Satan had nothing to do with the garden of Eden, that was a "snake" and there was never mention of it being otherwise.

Without original sin we would not have needed a Saviour to be sent.
It makes perfect sense for Him to have come of a virgin, lived sinlessly, and then die heinously. He had to be better than we and suffered moreso than we, so as to make the sacrifice worthy.

To Remember: Satan tried to get Jesus to sin, but failed. Satan will tempt us, but we can overcome him
What was the second thing Satan tempted Jesus with? Satan claimed he could give Jesus all the kingdoms of the world. Why was this a temptation to Jesus? Because he had come to earth in order to lead all men to God. Satan was offering Jesus what He wanted, but through the wrong method - a means that was false. Satan could possibly have given Jesus the world's allegiance, but not their hearts - which is what God wants. Jesus answered, “Thou shall worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.” To rule the world physically was not what Jesus came for. He came to rule the world spiritually - and He accomplished that without Satan. According to the Bible, Satan was created by God as a cherub, the most powerful angelic being. Some time after his creation and before the creation of mankind, Satan rebelled against God and took one third of the angels (now referred to as demons) with him into rebellion. He took on the form of a snake in the garden of Eden to tempt Eve. Pride caused Satan to fall, ("your heart was lifted up because of your beauty") since he wanted to receive the worship due to God alone. For this reason, Satan hates God and His plans. He wants people to worship him and follow his evil ways. He does this through lies and deception. He opposes Jesus Christ - God who took on the form of a man to redeem humanity from their sin, and restore their relationship with Him. Jesus appeared to humanity to destroy the works of Satan, and will, ultimately, throw him into the Lake of Fire for all eternity. So haven't we, as Christians, already overcome the devil?

It'll have to work without Satan after he is abyssed and then destroyed as according to Revelation.

If God is benevolent then why is there so much pain and suffering and injustice in the world? Christianity needs Satan to screw us over.

Christ would not have been necessary If Satan the original liar had not enticed Adam and Eve to disobey God.
