"a lump" is not a very descriptive term. Is there hair still on it, or does the area look like it has lost some hair? Does it ooze or look red or inflamed? What does it feel like -- is it squishy or hard? Does it seem like it's associated with the skin only, or does it feel like it's "attached" to something underneath?

It's good that he's not showing pain, but a THOROUGH description always helps when asking questions here at Yahoo! Answers -- even then, many "Pets" answerers will tell you to see a veterinarian, and rightly so. At age 16, he needs to be seen by a veterinarian at least every 6 months to monitor his health.

Good luck with your dog.

Yes the vet is in order for a thorough physical. At 16 it could be a hernia or a cancer. Fast response if the best.

I would suggest you take him to the vet.. From my ewxperience I've learned that it could be a tumor or he might have swallowed something. He could just be swollen. He is old and fragile it could be anything..

if its not bothering him I say he's fine....but keep an eye on it, if it changes at all or seems to bother him then take him to the vet immediatley
