I was bitten by a tick in Mississippi in '05. The doctors said that the test showed lyme, but then again they said I didn't have it because ticks are not in the southern states. I have had meningitis, fatigue, eye twitching, (not palsy). Now I have developed pain in my joints. The worst ones being my ankes and my hands. Both ankles, both hands. What do I do. Because the doctors are saying they don't know what is wrong with me.

Ticks are in southern states. Ask your doctor to do a blood test to test for Lyme. If you do have it you sound like you are in stage 3. You have to take 2 weeks of antibiotics. You can look up Lyme disease to check out other symptoms.

The deer tick is all over the USA, and you said your Doctor said it was Lyme's . So why did he not put you on anti-biotic when he ran the test? The longer it goes untreated the worse it becomes and the harder it is to cure. Get thee to a Doctor now. Every thing you have written out are the worse symthiums of Lyme's.
It has gone to long untreated and you do have it treated. The sooner the better. You can also get Lyme's from other insects that suck blood from the body; it need not be a tick that did it to you.

I watched a program on TLC or Discovery I do believe where a girl was very active hiked and all and got bit by a tick got Lyme and was diagnosed. She was treated and thought it went away. Then for years she had all the symptoms you described. She went to numerous doctors that always told her something different.

Then she went to a specialist that told her that she had Lyme even though all other test showed differently. She was treated for antibiotics for a year. They had to keep her in bed and have the tube pumping directly to her heart. She eventually got cured, but something like 10 years total of being sick.

Ahhh Ha!!! After some searching I found it. The show was called Mystery Diagnosis the episode was called "The Stabbing Sensation"

Here is a link to the show and one to a blog about it:

Yes, Lyme has been found in ticks in the south, although most docs don't seem to know this. If the test showed you had Lyme, you had it, believe me. And if you are still symptomatic, you still have it.

You need to get to a doctor who is familiar with the disease. I recommend you go to http://www.lymenet.org. click on "flash discussion." Then click on "seeking a doctor." You'll be able to post where you are and ask for recommendations in your area. Then go over to the "medical discussion" boards, and start reading up on this miserable disease.

Lyme disease is carried by Black Legged Ticks, which can be found in the North and California.

The common symptoms are a rash, fever, and fatigue.

If you do have lyme disease, a few weeks of antibiotics should clear it up, as it is caused by a bacteria.

Do you, by any chance, have a butterfly shaped rash across your face?

Get a second opinion. What do you mean no ticks in the southern states?? The southern states are litterally full of ticks. If your doctor told you that, he (or she) is ignorant. You need a different doctor.

First of all, did you catch the tick and send it for examination? Ticks can be identified and also can be tested for the infection. I would definately go back to the doctor and get checked again. Good luck.
