My almost 4 year old woke up this morning and told me about his dream--he said there were lots of doors, and behind one was a giant potty with lots of lights on it. He turned all the lights in the rooms off and on and climbed around on the potty. He didn't seem upset or scared about this dream as he does with some of his dreams. So what could this mean? We are trying to potty-train him. Does this dream mean he's afraid of something or that we're pushing too hard? We have a doctor appt. tomorrow, and I know she's going to bring up potty-training; should I tell her about the dream and let her decide if something is up with him?

Yes, if you go to a doctor, tell the doctor what your son told you.

In his case, most likely potty training may be giving him some pressure. Perhaps, he is not ready for it yet.

Lots of doors in this case symbolize taking control or taking charge. In other words, he is feeling pressure by the fact that he can't do things on his own. All the doors are like blocking his own free will. The giant potty is obviously the blockage or the problem he is experiencing now.

If I were you, I would let her decide. When a kid is ready for potty training, trust me, he or she will not want that heavy diaper around any more.

I think the "giant potty" is a challenge. It is his mountain that he wants to climb. The lights emphasis the importance of it and turning the lights on and off may represent days and nights. And finally to climbed around on the potty is conquering it. In essence, He wants to conquer the task of using the potty but knows that it will take time but in the end he will conquer it and take one more step from being a little kid to being a big a mighty grown-up.

It sounds like the enormous potty is emphasizing that it's important that he be potty trained and that the light suggests that he's about to "see the light" so to speak, like he's getting the picture...if he isn't expressing fear or upset about it, then I wouldn't worry about it, that he's climbing all over it suggests that it seems like a big goal, but he's overcoming it, exploring it....

Door
To dream that you are entering through a door, signifies new opportunities that will be presented before you. You are entering into a new stage in your life and moving from one level of consciousness to another. In particular, a door that opens to the outside, signifies your need to be more accessible to others, whereas a door that opens into the inside, denotes your desire for inner exploration and self-discovery.

To see opened doors in your dream, symbolizes your receptiveness and willingness to accept new ideas/concepts. In particular, to see a light behind it suggests that you are moving toward greater enlightenment/spirituality.

To dream that the doors are locked, signifies opportunities that are denied and not available to you or that you have missed out on. In particular, if you are outside the locked door, then it suggests that you are having some anti-social tendencies. If you are inside the locked door, then it represents harsh lessons that need to be learned.
