since this is a very serious injury you must be care full and give it lots of time to heal after your surgery. For the first few days just give your body a rest.. because of the anesthesia it needs to work back into the routine and the medication probably is messing with your body as well.

If you needed 2000-2500 calories on a regular basis cut about 500-800 right off the bat because you don't need the extra energy. since crutches are bit of a work out try walking as much as possible and so any kind of upper body workout.

elevate your leg on the couch and lay one the floor.. do crunches and ball balance sets... if you can swim.. defiantly do that.. but most of all stay active in a safe way. I did the same to my ankle and rushed the process and 3 years later i sometimes still feel the pain in the ankle.. ligaments are tough to heal... Good Luck

find some hobbies to keep down on snacking.
Keep healthy foods around the house, so if you must snack, its at least good for you.

You need to do something ..obviously upper body exercise. Not sure if ya got any equip at home. You can still go to the gym and do certain upper body exercises.

Also, If you are lucky enough to have, or afford a Nintendo WII its all upper body, and a really good workout.

You can do situps most likely. How long until you can walk again? Try and excersize your upper body instead. Or walk around with crutches, that's hard work!

Did the doctor order any physiotherapy? A PT could give you the best guidance.
