It definitely sounds like the anal glands to me.....my Chihuahua had the same problem - and the smell is absolutely horrible!!! Most dogs naturally express these glands themselves when they have a bowel movement. In some dogs, however, it doesn't happen that way, and they must have the glands expresses (squeezed) by their vet or their owners. I could not do it myself....& my dog's glands would get very full, and leak - which was the horrific smell that you describe. I ended up getting her anal glands "frozen"....it was a minor surgical procedure done by my vet....so I would not have to worry about her ruining my furniture & to avoid me having to visit the vet each week to have her anal glands expressed.

There are a lot of reasons a dog can have odor.
First ask the important questions
Does the area appears swollen?
Is there any discharge that appears, yellow or green in color?
Does the discharge have an odor?
Is it vaginal or rectal?
A vaginal or uterine infection will show a swollen vulva and some mal odorous discharge.....
An anal gland problem believe me will not smell like raw seafood.....it is an absolutely nasty smell very acrid indeed.
If any of these questions you answer yes to, you pup should get a vet visit as only a vet can fix these things.
Most female canines do not come into season or heat as some call it until nine months of age . That is only an average but a very normal average.
If you question anything about the health of your new pup, do not hesitate to call your vet.

The THUMBS DOWN FAIRY must be out in full force today!! MOST OF THESE ANSWERS ARE ALL GOOD! The glands, pyometria, her first heat!!
Thumbs down are not because you do not agree it is for answers that are totally wrong and 90% of these are not! If you do not agree pass the question or give your answer and quit giving thumbs down!! Trolls
Please take her to the vet for a check up! Check the glands and the pyometria thing. Only the vet will know for sure!

I would say, without a doubt, that her anal glands are full and need to be expelled by a Vet. You can do it yourself but it isn't a very pleasant experience. Far better to get a qualified Vet or Vetrinary Nurse to do it for you.
She is a little too you to have a season yet. That can happen at any time after she is 6 months.
I'd advise taking her to see your Vet. He will be able to deal with the problem.

At four months old I am not sure it is the anal glands, even though that is a good place to start. I would take her in and have her looked at. One thing that can happen in unfixed females is call Pyometria. It is where the uterus fill with puss and it can be very dangerous. Check for discharge and I would schedual a vet appointment to have her checked out.
If it is the start of pyometria they will have to fixed her to take care to the problems

My female dachshund came into heat well before she turned a year old. I was surprised and didn't even realize what it was at first when I saw blood on the floor.Have you tried giving her a bath? I would say that she is coming into heat. Watch for the blood spots next.It is messy.

She is getting very close to the age where she can be spayed... ask your vet if you can schedule an appointment for her to get fixed in the next few months. Six months is the average, but many vets can do the surgery earlier. I have seen shelter puppies who have already been fixed at two months, so it can be done.

She needs her anal glands drained. These are sacs near her anus that produce and store a liquid used for marking and scenting. This is normal, and your vet will be able to drain them for you. I have two doxies and I have to drain their anal glands all the time
\
and for the person who said they don't come into their first heat until after a year! WOW! Stop answering any animal related questions.

dogs have anal glands, you need to take the puppy to the vet and have them teach you how to express those glands, that is what the smell comes from, and it will get worse as the dog gets older...it's a part of grooming.
