I usually do 8-10 minutes. I should add that you have to put the eggs in the water and THEN bring it to a boil. This might seem like common sense but I know people who have dropped eggs into boiling water and wondered why their eggs were exploding. So. Yeah.

Actually should be called hard-cooked instead of hard-boiled. (The water boils, the egg cooks.) I cook mine at gentle simmer 15 minutes after they reach the boiling point.
I add salt or vinegar to prevent cracking. I bring mine to room temperature for 1/2 hour before cooking to prevent cracking. I use older eggs - at least 1 or 2 weeks old. The air space they develop helps them peel. (The air pocket inside the egg helps that membrane stick to the shell.)
