Hello.

In Y/A, I've met newly converted Muslims and read the stories of many who left their previous faith to embrace Islam. Each story had its own beauty and how the person came to be enlightened by this religion.

Then I wondered what are the stories of those who are no longer Muslims and are faithfuls of a different religion. So what is your story of how you came to be a follower of another religion? What thoughts had you leave Islam and become a Christian, Atheist, Jewish, Buddhist, etc.?

Please don't take this question as a way to insult those who were Muslim before...I am, in absolutely NO way, trying to offend you and make you feel bad because of your decisions. I have respect for people of all religions....People with differences in their faith, languages, culture, and religion is what makes the world so amazing. I merely want to know what caused you to leave Islam for another faith. Again, I am not trying to offend any of you.

Peace.

Dear Austin, I am so touched by your question. 3 years? I think you should consider a major in your life. If you are still not convinced. Then, write down all of your doubts, and challenge muslims, ask mosques or look in the net for the answers. You should convert only when you are sure that this is the right path. No compulsion in religion. But, if you are convinced and fear the move, then, you should think what would happen if you didn't survive till you convert? especially if you already knew the right path. For every thing in this world there is a price. Heaven is a great thing, but to reach it, you might find difficult challenges and prices to pay. Here is my opinion: - convert to islam by heart, go to mosque to have witnesses, but then don't tell your family and friends if they got issues with that. - start educating yourself, and talk slowly about it. like islam is not really bad as you thought. there are a lot of misconception about islam. I got muslim friends. - if you convert, you will find some behavior will change for the better. - all of these will be introductions to your familly and friends. of course, it differs from personal situation to another on how one can declare his new religion. Good luck

My wife still considers herself a Muslim culturally, but lately has become more of an agnostic. This might have something to do with me being an atheist. I'm sure I've influenced her thinking since she came to the US from Iran.

She first met me online when she lived in Tehran. We met in a religion room and debated creationism versus evolution. After she came to the US, we met and became a couple. In the last five years, we've had many interesting philosphical and religious discussions. She also read much on her own and learned things she just wasn't exposed to in Iran's school system.

She says that intellectually, she doesn't know whether there is a god or not. Emotionally, though, she would like for there to be a god. She realizes, though, that this is probably because of her upbringing.

In short, she is a very smart woman who is growing in many ways. We still disagree on various points of religion, but we respect each other's beliefs (or non-beliefs).

Humhum, ok, i agree with all of you, this is a very very stupid question to ask
no-ones gong to answer it, it is, if this question was left up for a year, possibly about ten people would answer, but if it were based on christianity, at least 1000 would answer.
So, now this has turned into a debate, so lets debate it, islam, is the most practical religion, there is no other religion more practical than it, due to islam, we circumsize ourselves, do you know how many illnesses can occur from a penis which is NOT circumsized.
We wash ourselves 5 times a day, no other religion teaches that, our halal meat, ensures we have the cleanest meat, and disease free, we have evidence of our religion, look at mecca, look at it, just search it in google images, its amazing, we believe that the christians and the jews were branches that led off the trunk, meaning, islam was the trunk, and the christians and the jews were once muslims that went astray, and it is backed up by evidence, and look at how much scrutiny islam is at under the moment, yet, it is still the worlds fastest growing religion

If you're a devout Muslim who truly believes the Qur'an, you can't POSSIBLY respect other religions, because you must then also believe that all other peoples must convert, be subjugated, or put to death.

And anyone who's an ex-Muslim would be a fool to identify themselves to you -- again, if you truly believe in the tenets of Islam, then you must also believe that anyone who has renounced the Muslim faith MUST be put to death.
