The equation for happiness is to treat people so good most will treat you good in return. Then you are surrounded by freinds and eventually family and that is true happiness. Happiness on a job is accept what job you have, make a game out of it, challenge it, be very good at it. Then you will be very happy in your job. I am 72 years old. I have had a very very very happy life. Even though I divorced once, I wouldn't change it because of the children that were born of that wedlock. I now have 24 Grandchildren and 7 step GC. They bring me joy and happiness. If I had known that Grandchildren were so much fun, I would have jumped over the children and gone directly to GC

Once I asked this question, and was directed to the following passage from Seneca. It was exactly the answer I needed. I'm sure the answers will vary with personal experience.

"The true felicity of life is to be free from perturbations; to understand our duties toward God and man: to enjoy the present without any anxious dependence upon the future. Not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears, but to rest satisfied with what we have, which is abundantly sufficient; for he that is so, wants nothing. The great blessings of mankind are within us, and within our reach; but we shut our eyes, and, like people in the dark, we fall right over the very thing we search for without finding it. "Tranquillity is a certain equality of mind, which no condition of fortune can either exalt or depress." Nothing can make it less: for it is the state of human perfection: it raises us as high as we can go; and makes every man his own supporter; whereas he that is borne up by anything else may fall. He that judges a true aright, and perseveres in it, enjoys a perpetual calm: he takes a true prospect of things; he observes an order, measure, a decorum in all his actions; he has a benevolence in his nature; he squares his life according to reason; and draws to himself love and admiration."

Happiness is found in spurts throughout life.

I have found that the times that make me feel the happiest are usually associated with helping others.

I feel happy when my kids are happy, or when I help a stranger, who is then thankful.

Funny how that is, but I am sure it is just nature letting us know that helping the species is helpful to us as individuals.

Is this the equation for happiness?

A) Do you have a personal code of conduct?
B) Do you live by it?

If you have an unwavering set of values for yourself and choose to always live by them, you will never be unhappy.

When your desires are fulfilled, that is happiness. But it is the happiness of the lowest kind. When you give ,donate or do something for others, unselfishly, that gives you the next level of happiness. The ultimate happiness is when you experience divinity in everything around you and in everything you do. Then you experience pure bliss. :)

inner peace + selflessness = happiness.

In order to get peace you have to detach from desire for material things. (immediate stress relief and a clearer mind is guaranteed)

True happiness is of a spiritual nature and not based on the material and temporary state for gross satisfaction.

When you practice selflessness you are most rewarded and feel uplifted. Selflessness is the act of compassion, generosity, goodness, kindness. It's also a doorway to spiritual upliftment, youthfulness and a smiling face!
