Leave it to the good ole USA to sell sell sell.
The sponsors and "ads" on the cars and present at the tracks pay NASCAR where as the sponsors and ads on the T.V. pay the televsion stations.
We the consummer get bombarded with these ads from every angle during the race then we only get to see 5 to 10 laps of the race .Then its off to commercials.
We watch as the car with the "OFFICIAL SPONSOR" of NASCAR sponsorship for umpteen laps, there ould be better racing behind this car but we have to watch the OFFICIAL SPONSOR of car until commercial to see the other sponsors of NASCAR hit us for 5 minutes, unless there is a major wreck where they will resume the coverage, mentioning the sponsors a dozen times.
Dayyam I wish I did not have to put up with this crap.

How else do you think NA PA would be able to get their advertisement? Some of the commercials are great. Although I miss the "how bad have you got it" commercials. Plus did you really want to continuously hear Rusty Wallace babble? I know - we miss out on some good racing - seems like when they come back from a commercial something major has happened.

I agree - record the race and you can skip right through that stuff.

Maybe thats why Mexican soccer will remain a strictly regional draw with no real national appeal. I'm with you though, I loath commercials! Its a sad fact, but without them there would be no (non pay-per view) broadcast. BUT....As mom of 2 stated, the nascar commercials are outstanding and very entertaining. Kudos to them. Also, these other networks need to look at how Fox does it. They are the best!, it doesnt seem like theres as many breaks as when ABC and ESPN do it. God, I wish FOX could cover every race. adding to Gregs point, If you dont like commercial breaks? get out and support your local track, Iv been to half a dozen Cup races, and had a great time, but for PURE unadulterated excitement, nothing can touch open wheel sprint cars/midgets on dirt short track.

$$$$, ching-ching, money, money, its just the way it is. We normally have several people over with their lap tops, so when the commericals are on we listen to trackpass and different drivers, go to the fridge (with all the commericals no wonder I have no beer left at the end of the race), if it baseball season we catch up on the scores.. I agree theres way to many commericals, but then its a expensive sport, I just wish some huge company would put up the major $$$$$ for side by side like IRL has. I think the networks could time the commericals better.. But I doubt we will ever see a commerical free race, sure would be nice to see how it would be...

OK folks- the average prime time TV show has about 18 minutes of commercials per hour. It'd be nice if we could pay the media bills some other way, but this is how it gets done.

Do the DVR thing.

You don't have the slightest idea of how expensive this thing is to put on. Just be glad we get more coverage than we did 30 years ago.

BTW- you can't tell, but in print it's generally a ratio of 50% ADS, 40% content.

The alternative, we could always go back to the days when only 2-3 races per year were broadcast and the purse for winning the Daytona 500 was $100,000 and companies like Billy Bob’s Muffler Shop sponsored a car. Whooo-hooo!

I think there are a ton of commercials in nascar. I understand the races cost alot to put on,but somewhere you cross the line from making money to greed . Brian France has crossed the line and kept on running. In the MLB,NFL,NBA,NHL,etc....,if the event is on at 1:00 ,by 1:05 the game has started. In nascar,if the race is on at 1:00,it will start at1:20 every time. Then you will have 10 to 15 minutes of racing.....commericals......app 5min. of racing......commericals....etc. until the last 20 min or so of the race. it happens every race . You could set your watch to it.

ever notice the signage around the soccer field? soccer's way of broadcasting their sport is the best way for the true fans, but since racing here has been done this way for so long and the commercials are the way the networks make their money broadcasting anything, it will remain this way for ever, even if NASCAR was to ever have its own network

But that's in some ways how the sponsors make their money. I think the commercials are great. They are some of the best ones out there.

Commercials are part of television, unless you want to pay a premium for what you're watching.

Now as far as the timing goes, the networks need to work on that.
