No. In fact it shows the very opposite to be true. Love is defined by commandments.
Pupil - wake up and smell the coffee. The commandments define what love is. Love can not come before the works or its not love at all.
Does not the very WORK of mercy and grace (unmerited pardon) prove the that God loves us. Yes being merciful and extending grace is a work that we are to emulate as believers but according to your doctrine we don't because that would be a work.
What does James say? James 2:17-20 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
Sorry Lone Ranger I don't mean to launch on your answerer but I'm in a very intolerant mood today towards pablum and Pupil's answer is just that. It's nothing more than a Protestant Ministers talking point that he is parroting.

I am not sure what you are asking, however what I do know is
I was a good little christian & in the beginning I found it easy
to tow the line, after a while it was like I was being tested on
certain things & although I wanted to do right I failed, the
harder I tried the worse I failed, until I gave up & said Father
I cannot do this, somehow something changed & the problem
just fell away. It got harder & harder as time went on with more
& more tests. Now in the Messianic movement I tried to do
the commands, but found myself back in the same pickle,
trying to do it out of legalism. It does not work. I now read the
word & do the Torah portion each week & I find it takes away
all the legalistic ideas & i can now do things from my heart, in
love for the one who first loved me & gave His life for me.
So what I am saying is that keeping commands legalistically
does not show love, but trying & failing & falling on His mercy
& grace, even though you do not keep some commands at
that particular time, can actually show love. If that makes
sense. It works because He see's peoples hearts. I have
spoken to others & they say the same. Its Law & Grace it
works thru love.

According to these verses if we love Him we must keep His commandments. So by NOT keeping them we are not showing love towards God.
Deu 11:13 And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,
Jhn 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Jhn 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
1Jo 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
1Jo 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
1Jo 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
1Jo 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Yes. Biblical love for God is obedience to his Word, not a mushy feeling.
John 14: 21He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me:............

1 John 4:19, "We love him, because he FIRST loved us". The love comes BEFORE the works, not the other-way-around.
