Well you don't say what state you live in. If it is CA, you don't have to press charges, the state does it for you. The fact there was physical contact, requires an arrest. You can petition the DA to not file charges. However, he will always have an arrest record. The next time, the DA will take that into account. If you don't want the cops involved, don't call. If convicted, he will be required to complete anger management classes, drug or alcohol classes if either were involved. Usually there is also a stay away order involved. If you to have a relationship that involves the police, its time to move on before both of your lives are ruined.

You considered this a law question???
Whether both of you can get back together again all depend whether both of you still love each other, and willingness to put this incident aside.

Hopefully, he is gone from your life permanently. You need to spend some time on yourself....

Like, go back to school, learn to read and write, spell and think.

Did you call the police and file a report? If so, what did you expect would happen?

Did you file charges against him? If not then he is in trouble for something else. Unless you press charges there is no crime committed.

Get back together. Just don't expect sympathy when you do and he abuses you again. You will deserve all that you get.
