I'm not trying to convert anyone to atheism but America's values are based on the bible (gays marriage/ marriage). In America even if you don't believe in God you live by the bible. It took me 15 years to figure out that it doesn't make sense. Shouldn't laws be changed to accomidate those who don't believe in God? It hasn't even been proven he's real.

Most people think gay marriage is wrong because the bible says marriage is between a man and woman. Aren't gays people too? So shouldn't they be allowed marriage and happiness? Or since they don't go with what the bible says the must suffer?

America, for most of its history, has been populated by people who have at least a vague sense that there is a God- even if they never entered a church, read the Bible, or could agree on any key point.
Until recently, the unofficial 'national religion' was a sort of 'Sunday-school white-bread over-simplified' Christianity that could hold the idea of Jesus and Santa in about the same esteem.
Now, however, things are getting odd. Churches and religious groups are flexing their political muscles. Groups like the ACLU and members of other faiths or philosophies are challenging the status of the 'unoffical religion'.
We are seeing a sort of battle of 'comfort zones'. Most Americans profess a religion without defining it too much, but an increasing number claim no religion.
The anti-religionists want gay marriage, elimination of religious icons in public places, de-Christianization of Christmas, etc. In general- they want to disturb the status quo.
Religionists may not agree on much, but they generally like things the way they are and don't see a big reason to change. They personalize the changes- see them as attacks on them in some way.
Now- if you got a guy from both sides of the arguement to sit down over a cold beer- they would agree on most points. However, neither side wants that- they want the headlines, the attention, the drama.
And quite honestly- God himself is not really a big part of this. it is more a fight between old ways and new ways.
As for proving God is real... that is at least a 5,000 year old debate that neither side will likely ever win.

What law do you want changed? Marriage law - get the majority to agree with you and you can change it.
What will most likely happen in the future will be that marriage itself will be redefined for all - simply a relationship contract for a specified time period. States are already moving to no-contest simple divorces, that don't require the involvement of a court.

I find relious people weak. They have an inabilty and fear of thinking and feeling for themselves and feel they need something to believe in, in order to get through the day. They do not trust in themselves as accomplished people and need to find reason in false truths. Religion and god all undermines human capability and ability. Look how far society has come on its own. Also, look at how much upheaval and bloodshed religion has caused. It is a shame people cannot think for themselves. It is not just in America, look around the world. The bible is a great book of stories and that is it. Stories. Untrue, fiction, false, not something to live by. People should live by the simple code of treating people with respect, honesty, non-judgemental, being true friends, supportive.

Sorry, but the U.S. is a democracy, which means the laws are based on what the majority of the people want. If the majority says that gay marriage is wrong, then it will probably stay like that.

The constitution was written to not do that but religious zealots have tried several times to take control of this country and make laws for the purpose of religious control. Unfortunately religions are very dishonest and only want to control people in any way they can and do horrible damage to all of human kind. There are many groups that work to keep church and state seperate. you should research this more and get involved in this fight for freedom.

Biblical law is yet still based on older law codes - absolutely nothing new there.
Religion has always been there - it fills a need that almost every society has.
Give it 50 years or so, and things will be very, very different.

There is no god, but his fanclub holds all the cards in the us.
Some people don't understand that the Bible only applies to christians and the law applies to everyone.

The function faith performs with homosexuality is to unfold the thought that homosexuality is a sin, that it will be repressed, and that performing on it quite is going to deliver one to hell. In different words, faith and the function it performs with homosexuality is that of intolerance.
