Prayer works!

The Bible says that the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much..........

Since we have free will, prayer is absolutely necessary. God doesn't intervene unless we give Him persmission. It is absolutely essential to the Christian faith.

Why, you have to say a prayer to be born again!

When I intercede for others I am arranging a meeting between them and God. What if no one else prays for them?

Prayer is simply talking to God. I spend time in praise every day. I spend time just thanking him and time writing down my sins. I actually write it all down in a notebook. It is enormously helpful to write down what you've done wrong - you don't want to see it again!

I pray about my relationship with Christ and with other people. I pray for lost people, etc. I even pray for people on R & S. I pray for my country. I pray about the work I do and ask him to help me and work through me. I pray about everything!

I have seen many answers in my personal life...........however, it's all about Him. When we get an answer to prayer we didn't actually DO anything. We asked Him to do something.

EDIT: Don't take the advice of the person who said to turn in a blank sheet of paper and then pray. It was pretty funny but it's a sin to tempt God. Do the work.

I'm with Paul. Turn in a blank sheet and see what the teacher gives you. Prayer doesn't have any "power" because you're not praying to anything. Using a magic 8-ball would be just as effective.

The main point is that prayer itself does not possess power. God does. Prayer simply puts us in contact with the One Who is all powerful and all loving. The power lies in the Person of God, not in the "technique" of prayer.

It is psychosomatic.

Other studies have shown that:
Praying for yourself has an effect - the same as spending time meditating. So it is the meditative state that you are in while you pray that is helping, not the appeal to a deity.

If you know that other people are praying for you ther is an effect. The same as taking a placebo. Again it is the belief that something is being done, not the appeal to a deity.

Compare and contrast the power of prayer to the power of wishing really hard and crossing your fingers.

Prayer Does Not Work. Sorry.
Once again, it's all in your mind..

[Excerpt]

"In a long-awaited comprehensive scientific study on the effects of intercessory prayer on the health and recovery of 1,802 patients undergoing coronary bypass surgery in six different hospitals, prayers offered by strangers had no effect. In fact, contrary to common belief, patients who knew they were being prayed for had a higher rate of post-operative complications such as abnormal heart rhythms, possibly the result of anxiety caused by learning that they were being prayed for and thus their condition was more serious than anticipated."

Turn in a blank sheet.
Pray for a good grade.

You'll learn more than you would if you actually wrote the paper.

It is a farce, and dequalifies the abilities of medical science. There is something to be said about the healing abilities of postive thoughts and sending good vibes to sick people.

when your mind focuses on things it direct energy to that point

when others do the same, the body responds
