My cat is about 5 years old. (he's long and skinny) We have a full length mirror in our living room that goes down to the ground. Sometimes my cat will walk up to it and stare at it, and then he will turn around, lift up his rear end, raise one of his hind legs, and then he PEES a couple drops on the mirror. We have had him for FIVE YEARS and he has never done this before until recently. In the past month, he's done it about 3 or 4 times.
WHY DOES HE DO THIS? Any ideas? Please let me know what you think!

He is actually spraying. It is a different chemical then pee and is used to mark his territory. He probably thinks the cat in the mirror is another cat and wants all to know that he is king of his domain. As far as discipline to correct the behavior....well I have never had a cat do this particular behavior but we use a spray bottle as a last resort. They don't like getting wet and will usually run when I even pick the bottle up

If your cat pees on the mirror he probably has good taste in newspapers ... try buying him a Daily Telegrath or a copy of the Times. I don't blame him when I run out of toilet paper I sometimes use The Sun

Did you always have this mirror or is it a recent addition? Because this is my guess: He's seeing himself in the mirror and he thinks it's another male cat. So since cats, especially male cats, are territorial, he's marking his territory before the other cat claims it.

The cat has some deep issues and may need a mental evaluation!LOL! He may even have insecurity issues. Maybe he thinks there is another cat in the house and wants to mark him/her as his territory! Or the cat may just be a freak and have a crazy fetish! LOL

yeah same response as sparkles. he thinks he's seeing another cat and is marking the territory to tell him back off pal. If you neuter him you'll not only get rid of the smell but the habit as well. if you don't want to i suggest you take it up off the ground and put it on like a small stool or something

most of the answes here are correct. being or not being neutered does not have anything to do with the cat marking his territory. and about the mirror, well, jeje he thinks theres another cat, therefor he pees there so that the "other cat" knows that its his territory. you can't do anything about it, its nature. my only advice would be to watch out, he can also pee on the couch... (or worst) :)
hope i helped:)

Oh well I have a kitty but she doesnt do that. Most cats when they think there is another cat in the house they try to make their territory on everything so I think you should put a cover on it or someting. Hope I helped.

It's because he is mean he pees on the other in the mirror. Your cat thinks the one in the mirror is a real cat. Same happnened to my gramma's goat. It always try to push xD.

Unlike primates and dolphins, cats can't recognize themselves in the mirror. They think it's another cat, so what your cat is doing is marking its territory so that the "other cat" will go away.

It sounds like he is marking it--not peeing on it. Maybe he thinks that he is another cat in the mirror.
