It's the year 2007 because the people of our culture started naming years after a certain event. [Our culture being Judeo Christian ... which is inclusive of non-believers.] The Christian world chose the birth of Jesus as a starting point. Jews have another starting point, as do Moslems, and the Japanese, just to name a few.
Just as Longitude and Latitude, Time Zones, etc., need a reference point for universal understanding, a Starting Point for time is also needed. Belief in Jesus, or any other Deity isn't necessary. To a Christian this is 2007 A.D. ["Anno Domini"], and if religiosity is a problem, then to those individuals the year may be 2007 C.E. [Common Era] or 2007 B.C.E. ["Before the Common or Current Era".]

Most countries around the world have come to accept the Gregorian Calendar for time keeping. Yes, this is set based on the year given for Christ's birth. Thus, "2007 AD" is "2007 Anno Domini (the Year of Our Lord)."
Some countries have different years, including the Jewish calendar (I think this one gives the year as 5800 or something like that), and the historical Chinese calender, I think, is different. There may be other cultures that use different dates. You may also be interested to know that the traditional Jewish Calender does not have 12 months.
But the Gregorian years have come to be accepted mostly worldwide as the year to give the date by.

It's 2007 because that's approximately how many years ago Jesus was born. There are other calendars, though. Not everyone on Earth considers it 2007 right now. You can also use "common era," which uses BCE and CE.

Unfortunately we have been keeping track of time since this so called Jesus died almost 2008 years ago. if others like me didn't believe in him than eventually we would have developed a calender of some kind. If we never believed in religion from the begging of man kinds time than our calender would have been dated much earlier than 2007 years ago.

Before Jesus was Born, the years were measured in BD, before death (in this case Jesus) and as the years went down, then the closer it became to recent times, but after Jesus died, they started counting in new years, so now it is 2007 years after Jesus died, AD (after death)

Weather you believe in Jesus or not, the entire world (even the heathen Chinese) accept the same standard for calculating the year.
I don't know the answer to that, but if want to go around telling people it's the year 5293 or something, don't blame me when people look at you like you're from Mars.

It is 2007 because there is a common convention that this is so.
At some point in the future mankind may chose to pick a different reference date.

Time is relevant and is just used to help you communicate with others so they know what you're talking about.
(Americans celebrate a 1 year birthday when the child has been outside the womb for a year. Japanese celebrate 1 year when the child is born.)
If you don't believe in Jesus, just ignore the year.
Oh, also give me all your money since it mentions God in such a favorable light, too.

Actually, Jesus was born before year 0.
But, the fact most of the world dates their existence from his lifetime forward is pretty compelling for a person to believe in Jesus Christ's existence. Don't you think?
