Drew,
Please don't refer to loaded ammunition as "bullets!!"
Loaded ammunition handguns and rifles should be referred to as cartridges or for shotguns, shells. Calling loaded ammo "Bullets" will mark you as uneducated or uninformed. Such a label might lead some folks to take advantage of your lack of knowledge.
The bullet is nothing more than the projectile that goes down range when you fire your pistol.
There are several .45 caliber handgun cartridges, and it you have a semi-automatic pistol, it is most likely that you will need .45 ACP ammunition.
The various .45 caliber ammunition is not interchangable. You can't use a .45 ACP cartridge in a .45 Colt or Long Colt, nor in a .45 GAP. If you have a revolver chambered for .45 ACP, you can use .45 AutoRim cartridges, but you can't use .45 AutoRim in a semi-automatic pistol, nor can you use .45 Long Colt, or .45 GAP in your .45 ACP pistol.
Welcome to the world of shooting.

ACP merely means: Automatic Colt Pistol. There are other 'ACPs' like the common .380 acp, so no, you can't just use ACP bullets in your .45. If it is a .45 acp then you must use .45 acp bullets.
There are other .45s like the new .45 GAP (Glock Automatic Pistol), and the .45 LC (Long Colt), and the old .45 Super as well as others.
Best.

ACP stands for Automatic Colt Pistol. Yes there are other .45's that aren't ACP, usually used in revolvers and the like. No you can't use anything other than the 45 ACP if that is what the gun takes.
DON'T vote this the best answer though, it's all Doc Hudsons information, I just summarized it to save time.

Automatic Colt Pistol, as opposed to the 45 Colt of Single Action Army fame, which is informally also called the "Long Colt" to differentiate the two when people just have to abbreviate past the point of good sense. The 45 Colt and SAA, of course, were adopted as the standard military sidearm in 1873 and are famous in all those cowboy movies. Now, aren't you embarrassed you didn't think of it yourself?
By the way, the latter is still one of the great cartridges, and suitable for hunting medium game (and this is, after all, the hunting section of YA), where the 45 ACP's typical roundnose bullets make it less suitable. The ACP is almost as good with the same weight bullets, but the older cartridge overall is definitely superior overall.

45 Auto Rim is another that was designed for revolvers and is not interchangeable. ACP is shared with 45 and 38 Colt chambering as in 45 ACP 38 ACP. Yes, Automatic Colt Pistol is correct.
