I have just watched the movie "Kinsey". I was really impressed with it. One of his theories was that everyone's sexuality could be measured on a scale of 1 to 6; or 1 being completely heterosexual and 6 being completely homosexual. I found this very interesting since it bears out a lot of stuff I have heard about this sort of thing. I would rate myself about 4 (I am bi).
It would be interesting to see how others on YA rate themselves. Thanks.

I'm probably a 5...lol.

Whatever the flaws in Kinsey's own methods of data collecting, I think his "sliding scale" is the most reasonable way to conceptualize human sexuality. Most people tend to fall at one end or the other of the scale, but very few people are really 100% hetero or homo - if they're being honest with themselves.

Kinsey's report is the foundation of queer theory in many ways, but his scale is now commonly regarded as too simplistic. It does not take into account culture, gender identity and expression, and several other factors. There are actually many different scales/models such as Kinsey's that seek to find the root of human desire.

The reason I say this is because I can't rate myself on the Kinsey scale. I am attracted to people who are female bodied at birth, but who either identify as male, or express themselves in a very masculine way. I am attracted to androgynous/genderqueer people who began life assigned to the female gender. See my dilemma? There isn't exactly a neat little box for me to fit myself into. And I'm not a lone person with completely unique desires. I have met many people, actually, who describe their desire for other people in nearly the same way I do. So...I guess my point is, it's more complicated than 1-6.

Oh, and also, most of Kinsey's test subjects were prison inmates. So...There's some room for questioning his methods there.

i loved that movie too! I went on the website and they still do studies. I am bi so i would be a 3 or 4. I always felt the way he did about sex and still do. I think all heteros should watch that movie at least once.

Is there a report to show how sinful someone is? 1 being not very sinful and 6 being supersaturated in unholy delights. I think I may score 666.

Instead of a line, it should be a square, with a point in any position. The other axis should be for degree of sexual interest, from 0 (asexual) to 6 (horndog).

Yeah, although I wouldn't base everything about him on movies. He wrote more than one report, by the way.

It was important because no one had done that kind of research, but unfortunately he had a lot of sampling errors.

Most of the statistics he gathered have been discarded.

Kinseys report fell into great disrupute in short order. It came out that the whole thing was made up to promote their agenda.

anything can be rated on a scale of 1 to anything, they're just arbitrary figures.

what about people wo are attracted to wierd things?

male - female I would rate myself mostly hetero, unless drunk, it's a sliding scale.
