Antibiotics, yes, otherwise you are not treating the problem.

You also need to prevent re-contaminating (old infection that didn't get licked comes back) and cross-contaminating (infection spreads from one area to another, in this case one eye to the other) yourself.

If you wear contacts, talk to your eye doc about either replacing them or sending them in to be professionally decontaminated. You should avoid contacts during active infection as soon as you know about it (and replace after you find out because who knows how long you had it) and switch over to your glasses immediately. This is because not only are you irritating the eyes making things worse, but keeping the infection in your eyes by putting your contacts in, and fiddling with your lenses puts pinkeye all over your hands, etc ready to spread around.

Another problem with cross contaminations, mostly for women, is makeup. NEVER SHARE and if you have an infection, replace EVERYTHING, not just eye makeup. I know nice makeup brushes are great, but you should replace them too.

For everyday protection and prevention, wash hands regularly, wash makeup brushes regularly, monitor expiration dates on eye makeup carefully and store your makeup properly. You can also apply makeup with cheap brushes that you replace regularly, or disposables, like sponges and Qtips, or apply eye shadow with your fingertip.

If you have green tea or black tea, heat them up(with water of course) and drop it into your eye. I don't know how or why it helps to get rid of the infection but it does. It may burn a bit when you put it in your eye, but you got to bear with it.
