Grand Central to Jericho, Long Island.
Step 1: the a Queens-bound # 7 (purple line) train to 74th Street-Broadway.
Step 2: at 74th Street-Broadway, go downstairs and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound "E" (blue line) train. Take the "E" to Sutphin-Archer/JFK-Jamaica Station.
Step 3: at Sutphin-Archer/JFK-Jamaica Station, connect with the Long Island Railroad's Port Jefferson Branch to Hicksville station.
Step 4: at Hicksville station, change to either bus route # 20, 48 or 49, or a taxi, to Jericho, Long Island.
Now the fares
NYC Subway: $2 one way
LIRR: $ 6.50 one way peak/$4.50 one way off-peak
LI Bus: $2 one way (unless otherwise stated)
Now, a word of advice. On the LIRR, purchase you ticket in advance before boarding, because you will pay more if you board the train with out a ticket.
I hope this information was very helpful. Enjoy your trip and Happy New Year

From Grand Central take the shuttle to times square and then the 1/2/9 down to Penn Station. You'll wind up thaking the LIRR to Hicksville and then a cab or bus north. Or you could go to Syosset and head east but there is no station IN Jericho assuming you wanted to go TO Jericho. Jericho Turnpike (Rt. 25) runs the length of Long Island more or less.

Personally I would take the # 7 Express -the "7 "in a diamond identifies the train as an express-to 61st / Woodside go downstairs and take the LIRR out to Hicksville or Syosett.
The LIRR platform that you want is the one with the ticket booth and the ticket vending machines on it.
As others have mentioned Jericho Turnpike is a very long street and it would helpful to know exactly where you are going before we can give you directions.

Take the LIRR to Jamaica. Go downstairs and take the E subway train to Roosevelt/Jackson Heights. It will be about 10 stops from Jamaica. EDIT: Concerning Chanteuse's answer--there is an extremely important piece of information missing there: not every Manhattan-bound train stops at Woodside. Though, I do agree that IF your train stops there (and you don't have to wait at Jamaica to switch to one that does) it is a more convenient way to get to Jackson Heights. But note that the method I recommended is also extremely easy (and could well be faster if you have to wait at Jamaica for a Woodside connection) and is not incorrect in any way. The down-vote it received is wholly unwarranted.
