Religion helps to promote good moral behavior. Not saying everyone needs religion to be good & moral. Just saying it helps.
We can do without it, but we can do better with it. Think of it as a cruch for the morally weak if that makes you feel better.

No, I do not believe that we need religion to go forward. If we had no religion, the world would be more united and people would not devote as much time, energy, and money to the church, and could instead use that to better their own family or the lives of others.

No. What purpose does religion serve? It could be argued it provides a source of good moral and ethical values, traditions and cultural heritage, and is responsible for some charitable works, but all of these things can happen independently from religion anyway. So no.
On the other hand, religions hold back science (e.g. declaring it heresy to say the world is round, teaching creationism, etc), are responsible for humans rights abuses (e.g. some of the things which happen under Sharia law), start wars (take your pick, too many to list), and impede progress in a number of other ways which I think means we are better off without them.

Some must depend upon others for their thinking. Hence religion. Many really believe they will go to hell if they don't subscribe to a religion. Religion has held humanity back thru the centuries. Even today it is resisting stem cell research which will eventually revolutionize healing. Society would be much farther advanced if there was no organized religion.

yes, i think it is quite important, otherwise people wouldn't really have a sense of morality. Those who are atheist, never really have a good reason to do something moral in life, unless is for their parents. According to me, it's better to beleive in religion, even if you have the slightest beleif thjat a god exists.
Also, the modern age is slowing. The new generation, especially in america has less and less religious folowers, and people care less about morality and karma. If someone steals or cheats, they don't really feel bad about it, because they don't really have a reason to fell bad about anything unless its their parents scoldings.
Religion doesn't always have to be based on a god. It could be a philosophical type of beleif.

In a great need. The Bhagavad-gitä reminds us that the primary function of any economy is not to develop industry or commerce but to produce food through agriculture. As Lord Krishna explains, both men and animals live by eating products of the field. But because many Western countries, America in particular, are accustomed to food surpluses, they tend to minimize or ignore this simple truth. Automobiles, televisions, home computers, and the many other elements of technological advancement are useless without the fundamental wealth of agricultural abundance. We can't eat nuts, bolts, transistors, and microchips.
Agricultural wealth depends in turn on the mercy of the Supreme Lord. While the atheist credits bumper crops to advances in farming techniques and technology, the devotee of Lord Krishna sees that without the cooperation of nature, which works under Krishna's direction, not one stalk of wheat can grow. And what is the great advantage of the big factories and great technology? Luxury: an economy with the ultimate goal of material, temporary sense gratification. And as bodily satisfaction becomes paramount, spiritual culture fades away. But the actual necessities—fruits, grains, vegetables, milk—these were not produced by the factories. You can't eat nuts and bolts, you know.

YES! God created us as humans to need guidance and direction! See where we have gotten by leading ourselves. While we may not need a "structured" religion to survive, we do need to follow God and his guidelines and standards to be truly happy! He made us with that need from the time we are born! And even more so as man continues to lead society into a more and more tragic state! We need God, but not necessarily religion.

What do YOU think of this? Will it make you go forward or sideways?
Bukhari:V4B52N220 “Allah’s Apostle said, ‘I have been made victorious with terror.’”
Qur’an 8:12 “I shall terrorize the infidels. So wound their bodies and incapacitate them because they oppose Allah and His Apostle.”
Qur’an 8:57 “If you gain mastery over them in battle, inflict such a defeat as would terrorize them, so that they would learn a lesson and be warned.”
Ishaq:326 “If you come upon them, deal so forcibly as to terrify those who would follow, that they may be warned. Make a severe example of them by terrorizing Allah’s enemies.”

Notice how I get thumbed down when quoting 'holy' and factual islamic texts by the moslems. :)

We need it now more than ever. People used to have stigmas attached to immoral behavior. Even if you were not necessarily religious, you still had to answer to society. Today, morality is being thrown by the wayside, and without religion, many would succumb to pressure by society.
