Walking burns very few calories compared to other activities. He needs to start jogging, even if it starts out only as a quick run around the block. Almost every day that you hear of a new diet pill you hear about how an old one has been determined to be harmful to your health. Alli blocks the absorption of fats and although that seems helpful, dieting and then blocking fats absorption may keep your body from getting ANY fat which is very unhealthy. He needs to exercise vigorously. Losing a few pounds on a pill will not help his blood pressure or cholesterol levels in the future. Until he gets his feet moving he's just taking years off his life and setting himself up for a future of possibly type II diabetes or heart attack/stroke.

If you are overweight then you can go on some kind of diet. You will need to talk to your parents and see your doctor first though, to discuss the correct way of doing this. Don't just stop eating or diet because of what you have seen or read. Diets don't work for everyone and wil involve other factors such as exercise.

You do need to take into account your height and build here plus the fact that you have yet to reach physical maturity. I suspect that this increase in weight has been accompanied by an increase in height as well ... you are still growing! On the surface, I don't think you have a problem and your general shape will give you clues as to if you need to be careful with what you eat in the future.

You might be about to go through your growth spurt. Some boys will grow 6" in height in one year - usually between 14 and 15. Obviously you will also put on weight for this, and you might have done that before you have noticed much change to your height.

i dont like diets... you know it is always safe and healthy to eat right. exercising and eating whole foods is healthy all the time. you'll find if you are eating the right stuff, you almost can't get too much. whole foods are so filling for thier calories with my cycling i struggle at times to get what i need. this means whole grain breads and pasta, lean meats and lots of veggies and fruits. get away from processed foods as much as possible and avoid calorie dense foods like dairy and you can't go wrong. the hardest part is adjusting your pallet so you can enjoy this lifestyle, but in time it is just automatic.

yeah, its never too early to diet, just make sure you don't starve yourself, eat good stuff not less stuff.
But honestly your metabolisim is probably running very fast at your age, you shouldn't need to diet. Just try and be more active, ride your bike, run a lot, join a new sport. Thats all you should need at your age.
