How good is the reception if you have one of the portable ones? Can you take it anywhere and still have a good reception? What if you take it into a school or any other building that has thick walls?

Atleast mine, you still need a direct (link) to the sky without obstruction. If not, you need an antennae that will reach out thru like a window. Mine is older, so, technology may have gotten better. Best I can give you.
Go to a REPUTABLE SIRIUS DEALER and ask questions. I am sure they have solutions for most of the questions you throw at them.

I have a sportster with a car kit and boombox and the reception is always great. As for the portable one's, which one are you referring too? I think for the Stilleto picks up wifi for the signal however you cannot get the nascar channel via the internet stream.

I get great reception, I have even played my thru my stereo here at home when the race is on, and I have the boombox that I have at work and I have the car kit as well...I love it, I never have any problem with reception.

I have mine in my truck and put a signal repeater on my property. It broadcasts to the radios in my house and shop (through the FM transmit) which is pretty cool. I have it where ever I need it and since I never tune it off of the NASCAR channel I don't have to worry about the remote reaching my truck...haha

mine is good, used in the cars and at home, get the boom box for travel, as for schol, you would have to check the rulea and with a dealer to know how that one wroks.
