Did Jesus drink wine? Yes. It was socially acceptable during the life of Jesus as it was with his fore-bearers. They didn't drink wine in order to become inebriated - it was weak wine. But it did contain alcohol. Otherwise, it wouldn't be wine.
The Rev. Phil Hill, my pastor from Hockliffe Street Baptist Church in the UK, used to save up his "pocket money" (about £1 per week) in order to enjoy a can of larger now and again. The finest preacher and pastor I ever met.
By the way, what on earth is a DEPENDENT Baptist Preacher? Dependent upon whom or what? Are we not all dependent on CHRIST JESUS? Did not Paul say that a little wine is good for the stomach? Quit with the legal stuff and embrace the freedom that comes with Christ. As long as our conduct does not stumble another, as long as we do what we do to the glory of God, then we have nothing to be ashamed of. Least of all enjoying a glass of wine. Or a cool larger beer on a hot afternoon. It is not the consumption of alcohol that is the issue - it is the abuse of the consumption of alcohol that is the issue.

1Timothy 3
1 "This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
3 Not given to wine..."
The chapter goes on to list the qualifications of a bishop. The definition of "bishop" is one that performs the following:
b) oversight
1) overseership, office, charge, the office of an elder
Biblically, an Independent Baptist pastor should not drink alcohol.

I am an Independant Baptist Preacher and all that I can tell you is that I drink all the alcohol that I want to drink. Which is none!
Jesus Christ changed my want to,s when he saved me.
So I do not want to drink and he does not want any of his family to drink. And so if you are part of his family then DO NOT DRINK

In the Bible, the only people not allowed to drink alcohol were those who had taken the vow of the Nazarite and the Recabites (e.g. Judges 13:5 & 2 Samuel 4:8).
A Baptist preacher who is not 'allowed' to drink alcohol, yet has not taken any vow to so abstain, is not independent!

No one who is claiming to represent the Lord should openly do things that God frowns on. Actually, they shouldn't be delving in ill-witted things "in private," either. A shepherd can not lead his flock if he has no leadership skills. The Lord promises in the Holy Bible (King James version) that he will turn away from those "chosen representatives" who decided to lead others astray. I wish you well. May you and your loved ones experience a prosperous, healthy, God-endowed, Happy New Year.

I don't see why not, there is nothing in the word of GOD that says not to. One should not be a drunkard. One must only drink in moderation. If a person can not do that, then they should not drink alcohol.

It isn't what goes into a man that defiles a man but what comes from a mans heart that defiles him. What goes into a man pass into his mouth through his stomach and out. What comes out of a mans mouth is what comes from his heart the Good man good and the bad man bad. Alcohol does make a person weak though and often causes them to do things they normally wouldn't. So I would say it is better left alone.

The Bible says:
Woe to those who rise early in the morning to run after their drinks, who stay up late at night till they are inflamed with wine. (Isaiah 5:11) Our lives should not be lead by alcohol; we should be lead by the Holy Spirit. Do you make plans around drinking?
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight. Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine and champions at mixing drinks. (Isaiah 5:20-22) Do you brag to others how good you make drinks? Do you tell others that you can out drink them? The bible says, “The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves. (Isaiah 3:9)
Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbors… (Habakkuk 2:15)
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. (Galatians 5:19-26)
Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise. (Proverbs 20:1) It is foolish to get drunk.
Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags. (Proverbs 23:20-21) We should not take part with drunkards in their drinking.
We are suppose to live for God not ourselves.
The bible says, “Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin. As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you. But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to men in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit. (1 Peter 4:1-6)
