no really, i mean all of this. everything and everyone.
why must theology and dogma, and religion in general be so absolutely _Serious_?
who else thinks that religion makes people too serious, which in turn leads to serious consequences...usually negative?

what i think is funny is arrogant theists that think they have a grasp on anything coming close to "logic" when in fact the only thing they are capable of is spouting meaningless platitudes and convoluted assumptions. even a meaningless life makes more sense than this:
"It would be helpful if atheists, trying to prove there point, explained where they get the ability to prove their point as without God, all of life is pointless including the point they are trying to make....so why bother as there is no right or wrong"
where i "get the ability to prove a point" is my functioning brain. where do you derive your ability to "make a point"? saying that without god there isn't a point is an opinion, not a fact. i happen to know life can be meaningful without any gods; at lest for me it can, perhaps not for you. and why bother? because i cannot be silent in the face of ignorance and pseudo-logic people like you seem to ooze.

i wasn't aware that i was advancing any particular agenda or viewpoint...this was a lighthearted question...philisophical, yes, but not meant as offensive to anyone...of course i do not have any "supporting evidence" for the possibility of this all being a "joke"...thats why it was a question...and a joke :)

People generally take life and death issues with a great deal of gravitas. Certain beliefs, no matter how outlandish, comfort us. Religion seems to give believers an easy out from the daunting prospect of eternal nothingness. So no matter what the cost or doubts, many cling fearfully to religion and doctrine with every bone in their body.
To this I say: let us all take our own stands. Just don't try to tell me what to believe. In the end what we take so seriously may all be a gigantic cosmic joke anyhow, because our precious human egos- like our hearts and brains- will all fade to black as we die. And although we love to think so, there is no possible way any of us can make an educated guess about a supposed supreme being or about whether ot not there is life after life. I just try to do the best I can one day at a time, and tend to leave heavy duty theological speculation to others. Most of our time in the R and S forum, in my opinion, is taken up blogging about "sound and fury, signifying nothing." Of course we ALL love to chase our own tails, which is why we are on here so much, but at least we can't kill one another with words. The closest we can come to this is via reporting people, LOL!

I don't see you walking down the street of lower income housing of a culture like your own at 3 AM yelling ethnic slurs about yourself and then saying, "You can't be serious about wanting to hurt me." Why not?
Religion wasn't involved. Ahhhh, that's right, everyone is religious.
You are religious and your question was serious and these are the negative consequences of your religion. Seriously, why would planning your funeral be serious as all of life is a joke?
It would be helpful if atheists, trying to prove there point, explained where they get the ablity to prove their point as without God, all of life is pointless including the point they are trying to make....so why bother as there is no right or wrong.
To say that there is a right and wrong means there is a purpose from which draw that conclusion. E=MC^2 will never provide a person a purpose and the reason something exists can not be determined after it exists.
Self contradiction is extremely funny to listen to and that happens every time an atheist tries to prove that their point is as meaningless as their life.
Edit:
Please read the Radical's rant. Please notice how he makes himself the highest authority before calling me arrogant. And as he spewed his hatred like vomit, was there any substance to support his position? No, why not?
If his answer wasn't from an atheist, I would swear he was a TV evangelist saying, "You musssst BELIEVE like me or feel the wrath of a totally unsubstantiate argument."
Rad, when you have an intelligent, logical position you will have the benefit of being able to verbalize it simply and clearly. When you don't, you won't.....and will prove you don't each time you speak.
Do yourself a favor and say something meaningful....as
saying something with meaning is what the topic is about, no joke.
Edit
You can, of course, believe that everything Radical says is nothing but a light hearted joke or you can believe his description about himself:
***About me: I've had people make profiles JUST to slander, insult, and curse me! muhahahaha please, please, please send me hate mail; your indignation, hate, anger, and lies SUSTAIN me***
There is only one intelligent decision that I believe everyone reading Rad's rants can determine as true.

Logic is what man perceives, and truth is what God gives us. There are many good men of the past that have proven the existence of God (Triune God). Men like Justin Martyr, Martin Luther, Calvin, etc. who have studied and experienced truth as given to them by the Holy Spirit. Now all this sounds like religious babble, but then again it is your right as a free agent to do so.
For those of us who have seen life changing experiences are not convinced but assured that their is God. Religion is a serious and yet happy experience in ones life. Serious, because to us Christians it means eternal life in what we call Heaven. Happy because we are promised (via the Bible) that it is given to us if only we would believe in Jesus Christ. After all that is why we celebrate Easter, and Christmas, the dead and birth of Christ.
Proof, the written word, i.e. Josephus' Antiquities, and of course the Bible with all it's miracles and events as proven by history and eye witness accounts.

Its all a matter of meaning and purpose in life.
Some people are so desperate for guided purpose in life that they are willing to accept the impossible.
Edit - Don't let DS M rile you up too much, he is desperately trying to maintain faith, which causes him to insult and claim superiority over others. That is part of the disease, hopefully one day, he can be free of the belief systems that causes so much harm.

I think that the people who obsess over their religion would obsess over something else if it wasn't there faith.
Look around, there are maniacs in all type of things, religion, personal freedom, politics, heck, even what car manufacturer to drive.

I think you would have to take it seriously if you believe there is a God, and believe all the stories about him, because you'd believe he knows what you are thinking and doing, and would have the power to punish you infinitely.
And yes, people do take it too seriously, and yes it does have bad consequences, e.g 911.

Christ has given me joy that is unspeakable and full of glory. Some of the funniest people I know have a deep relationship with Christ. I would not call myself serious- however when my God is mocked.

Well, one of the main goals of religion is to explain the future of life after death.
That's kind of serious.
