Who knows?
The street preacher would say that even if their lifetime's work brought only one person to Christ, it would all have been worth it.
The thing is, you just don't know at any one time what is going on in a person's spiritual life - seeing a sign on a street corner might be THE turning point in their life - sometimes they might not even realise it till years later.
Small occurences of any kind can have a lifetime impact.

I don't street preach. I find that a Jesus Freak t-shirt is far more efficient.
I don't street preach, because, I mean, I figure that since not many people will actually listen to me, I may as well just go about my business and do something more productive.

I actually did this a couple of times while trying to do God's will.
In my experience, it didn't work. Not one person came to belief because I had the guts to tell them what was up.
Lion of Judah is correct that it has the effect of sticking in peoples minds, but is that the desired result. When I was street preaching, I was trying to save souls, not convince people that I was off my rocker...The result however were to convince people that I was nuts, and no-one got saved.

No. It's a big turn-off. And it's even worse when the street preachers decide that words are necessary.
It's a lot more effective if you befriend someone without the intent to convert them. You just live by Christian values and act as a light to others.

If God truly calls you to this yes, but remember in the process of carrying the sign- share the love of Christ with the people- a personal testimony always wins hearts, before a sign with no personal contact

God saves how and where He will. He might use a street sign or preacher to convict someone of their sins. Personally, I usually see someone filled with hatred, not love, who engages in these activities. But, again, God saves as He will, so He could use His word spewed from hateful lips to save someone.

Nope. How can one hear the Word of God and believe when speeding by at forty miles an hour?
The flesh likes to make itself LOOK more spiritual by doing the strangest things.

No the traditional Christian way is better - force someone on point of death/being burned alive to be baptised - worked for centuries and is the reason for there being so many Christians

That doesn't happen too much these days. I suppose if it were the end of the world and Revelations were being fulfilled, it might help people to consider their alternatives.

If they are tyring to call attention to their ignorance, than sign holding is very affective.
