Self-righteousness would have to be #1, if you're looking for most wide-spread.

I would assume that the #1 sin in America is the same as it has ever been in America and around the world since the fall --- pride.
After all, what else caused the fall? Putting oneself in the place of God --- pride. And what makes a man think that his ways are better than God's ways and thus he succumbs to sexual immorality and drunkenness? Pride. If you think about it deeply enough, I think you can see that most if not all sin comes from this root --- pride.

That is a good one. I think America's #1 sin is breaking the First Commandment. If you want to get technical.
"I Am the Lord your God...You shall have no other gods before Me..."
And what was the two main commandments of Jesus?
To love God with all your heart and to love your neighbor.
These are America's biggest sins.

Of the two choices, I'd say drunkenness, because a huge amount of the sexual impurity wouldn't happen without it.

I would say that the #1 "sin" in America is the unshakable belief held by some religious types that their views are absolutely correct and that anyone who doesnt believe the same way they do is to be condemned and ignored. Unfortunately these people are in charge of your executive Government right now.
So I would say "Pride" with a little idolatry mixed in

I truly believe that "anything sexually outrageous" is the No. 1 sin in America. Then comes alcohol in excess and hypocrisy.

Sexual impurity is #1 in the whole West
Drunkenness is not as vigorously defended or its damaging results as ignored as those of sex immorality

Where did you see these rankings? And what is sexual impurity, and by what authority do you define it?
I think the number one sin is trolling in Yahoo answers.

According to Letterman's top 10 Sexual impurity didn't even make the list, Drunkeness was only # 8.
Worshiping a God who is willing to torture humans for eternity was number 1.
