- that this is getting really silly now? I mean, it's one thing to have an honest and civilised debate about how things could move forward in the middle east, but that's not what we're doing.

Instead, in this forum there are people who are literally scouring the web for ANYTHING remotely negative about Israel! And when they can't find something, they resort to such desperate ploys as trying to prove that Einstein wasn't a zionist!

As if that's somehow relevant!

I think that if these people are going to be that silly, then those of us who came here for a decent and open debate, should just ignore their posts and answer only the intelligent and relevant ones.

What say you? And do try and keep it civilised. If you are only answering just to insult me, save your energy. I'll just block you and this then reduces the chance of any further dialogue.

HOPELESS - thanks :) I think we all needs to move forward, maybe we can all just ignore the silly posts that don't get us anywhere! Most of us are fed up with them, I think!

Hi 'h', I do agree that there have also been some silly posts from those of us who defend Israel. I have done as you proposed and have looked back; tell me if you think I'm wrong but the pattern I see is that we are constantly having to defend Israel, and sometimes the only way to do that is to try and point out equally negative things about Palestinian terrorism/Arab countries etc, do you know what I mean? I don't regard YOUR posts as being silly, I always enjoy your questions!! I'm talking mainly about people like FINCH, FREEDOM, and a few others who are apparently obsessed with Israel.

I think we ALL need to feel we can post genuine, and intelligent questions, but let's also try and think about the future more, and try and look at positive things. MIMI posted some AMAZING things about a week or two ago, I'm going to try and find some nice things too! Hope you had a good Eid :)

EDIT TO MARK - Mark, I have really tried over and over to hold a rational debate with you. However, a week or two back when you actually had the nerve to twist history and claim that in fact the five Arab armies that attacked Israel in 1948 were 'part of the zionist plot' I'm afraid I realised there was no hope for us ever debating anything. I believe you are a genuine person - but even you have to admit that you twist facts and have come out with some LUDICROUS theories. I don't want to block you, but if you won't be rational I won't be left with any choice. I hope you realise I don't WANT to block you, but feel you leave me with little choice :)

IVRI - lol lol lol, well, I guess I will take that as a compliment. Actually quite a few people in the Israel page have expressed frustration with the constant anti Israel posts. You haven't, but then you like arguing and you welcome any chance to pontificate.

I know you miss Tabitha. You have nobody to bully now that she's not in this section. Try and bully me like you did her, and you will find out the hard way that I am not Tabitha, and that your snide mutterings are illogical.

EDIT TO MONEY - :) I guess I'm still idealistic, a bit :) But I know it's not possible to change the world... alas....

RIVIVA - I hear ya! Essentially, when you read what GypsyThing says, if you take out 'Israel' or 'zionist' and replace them with 'Jew' you are reading a classic anti semitic rant, in the true sense of the word racist. Where in times gone past some people blamed Jews for everything bad in this world, no people like GypsyCreature blame Israel instead.

I agree with you totally, paperback-writer.

Ivri is being a creep. Nothing new there, then.

YA must attract the crazies!

I really don't know what to say. I just encountered a question titled "No joking, no anti Semitism; however, do Zionists really control the White House?"

I also reached a standoff with the "gypsy" person when she called Israel genocidal, evil, and essentially responsible for all of the world's ills... and then stated that not only has she never been to the area, but she never will go because she "doesn't want her $$ to support a genocidal gov't." we all know that if she were remotely serious about helping the palestinians and being a credible critic of israel, yet really had this extremist concern, she would fly to egypt/jordan, travel to israel by land, and only use palestinian cabs/buses/hotels/restaurants. it's possible to go to israel without spending a single penny on an israeli/jew (if you're that crazy!). however, she insists upon speaking about a situation she has never witnessed. she also obvioulsy does not take the time to educate herself about the "genocidal gov't" from a distance.

OY! These people are crazy.

Edit: Thanks MJ! Paperback is right-- we need more voices of sanity here :)

Dear paperback,

you know that I always respected your answers/questions and so far we never had any problems communicating also when it seems that we are worlds apart.

With this particular question you hit the nail. You are a 100% right - BUT - please be so fair and also mention that there are many Israelis/Jews/Israel supporters etc. posting questions where you also can get the impression very easily, that these people just try to find and looking for something to pick on Palestinians/Arabs. Please tell me honestly if I am wrong.

You are saying that in this forum there are people who are literally scouring the web for ANYTHING remotely negative about Israel! Please be so kind and check the last posted questions. Where the most coming from 'Anti jewish' people?

I do not think so. In this case it was just the opposite.

Please let me know if I am right or wrong. In general, if you talk for BOTH sides I agree with you.

Take care.

edit paperback: I am not talking people defending Israel (that's their right) I was talking about members who are just looking for something AGAINST Arabs/Palestinians. I am talking about member (s) who attac --Palestinans/Arabs and not the one who defending Israel.

Exactly what your post said, just the opposite way. I could provide you with names, but I have some manners. If you would like to know more, please feel free to email me.

It works for me, some of the postings and even the responses were a bit on the silly (and that word is perhaps a bit on the mild side) side. Never forget that when some people can't find concrete facts they resort to derision and out and out lunacy. Keep at it, who knows maybe someday, then my son might not have to go back to Iraq for a third time.

Mark, thank you and I rest my case. When you cannot argue facts you rely on derision and innuendo. Occupying forces...perhaps but look at Germany and Japan. They too were occupied and look where they are now...Rebuilt after the rigors of war. God history is an awsome thing when you actually read some of it.

I guess I've been gone too long! What's all the hubbub? Is it more of the same or have things gotten really ridiculous the last week that I've been gone? Anyway, you're always free to skip over certain peoples' comments or questions if you feel they're not worth your time. I think there are enough reasonable people around here to make it worth your while, just be more selective on which questions to get involved with.

Also I see many silly posts talking about 4000 to 2000 years ago and people arguing that Palestine will never be palestine and all palestinians are Jordanians. How does all this help the future also? Good question. Cheers!

Yes it is sad that there is so much anti Israeli trash on Y!A... if you really want to get depressed hang around the Political forums, where you'll find anti American and anti Israel statements in the same post...
But to show that even in these days there are good things going on. Check out this link about Israel printing the Bible on a pinhead sized piece of silicone.... interesting

As you said, just ignore them. The websites have a lot of bias and we can not believe everything we read. Whether Einstein was a zionist or not, he was Jewish and nobody can deny this fact. Denying anything about him will not benefit the other side in anything so let them say whatever they want.
Cheers

Great question and well put comments by you!
If we can all remember there are really 3 sides to a story we might all get along better.
Those sides being..mine..your's..and the truth, we all need to respect each others opinions, regardless of how we feel about them.

I agree completely that zealots on both sides make productive discussion impossible. However, I don't think Yahoo!Answers is the key to Middle East peace.

You should visit the South Africa section, we have a couple of those, one of whom is not even remotely connected to South Africa. Some people have got nothing better to do.

Happy Hannukah!
