Islam is not a violent religion. One can only harm someone if they are defending themselves. One would understand this if they were to read the Quran and understand the difference in Meccian and Median versus

first of all, Islam never lets us to use any kind of violence and war unless people attack to It's followers,or people attack land of It's followers these are two occasion that we are allowed to war. On the other hand, yes Islam is different from Christianity and if somebody attacks you, you do not have to forgive him/her (ıf you forgive this recommended but) you have right to ask the same type of attack to be carried out the attacker. It may seem cruel, but not, because this lower the crime level to the minimal. there are related part of Quran, I cited in my web address All the best :)

No it is a religion of peace. It isnt however a religion of pacifism and it is allowed to defend yourselves against people who attack you.
However it is forbidden to kill non combatants. The ironic thing about the terrorists is they are simply mimiking what was done to Muslims by non-Muslims such as the US govt (bombing and killing thousands of civilians) rather than following Sharia which forbids this. So they are following the way of non-Muslims rather than of Islam.

No it is not a violent religion. It may seem violent because partly the media portrays that way and partly due to some ill practices of the Muslims.
Islam is a peaceful religion and doesn't spread hate. The Prophet was an example of mercy and peace if one knows his biography.
Examples of his sayings and advices to the believers (Muslims):
n {The believers, in their love, mercy, and kindness to one another are like a body: if any part of it is ill, the whole body shares its sleeplessness and fever.}1
n {The most perfect of the believers in faith are the best of them in morals. And the best among them are those who are best to their wives.}2
n {None of you believes (completely) until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.}3
n {The merciful are shown mercy by the All-Merciful. Show mercy to those on earth, and God will show mercy to you.}4
n {Smiling at your brother is charity...}5
n {A good word is charity.}6
n {Whoever believes in God and the Last Day (the Day of Judgment) should do good to his neighbor.}7
n {God does not judge you according to your appearance and your wealth, but He looks at your hearts and looks into your deeds.}8
n {Pay the worker his wage before his sweat dries.}9
n {A man walking along a path felt very thirsty. Reaching a well, he descended into it, drank his fill, and came up. Then he saw a dog with its tongue hanging out, trying to lick up mud to quench its thirst. The man said, "This dog is feeling the same thirst that I felt." So he went down into the well again, filled his shoe with water, and gave the dog a drink. So, God appreciated him and forgave his sins.} The Prophet was asked, "Messenger of God, are we rewarded for kindness towards animals?" He said: {There is a reward for kindness to every living animal or human.}
Muhammad, may peace and blessings be upon him, was sent as the last and final prophet to mankind. We are living in the last of age and are very close to the Day of Judgment. Muhammad, may peace and blessings be upon him, was sent to the whole of mankind and his message is not only for Muslims or Arabs. He was sent as the last prophet after him there won't be any other prophet, which shows how close we are to the Day of Judgment.

It has always been violent. They had about 40 years of non-violence when it was first created, by an illiterate man, of course. Then they decided that they needed to go out and kill.

Bismillāhir-Raúmānir-Raúeem = "In the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Compassionate".
JUDGE “ ISLAM “ BY ITSELF (QURAN,SUNNAH SAHEE HADITH) AND NOT BY ITS FOLLOWERS.
IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT THE PPL DO WHAT DOES MATTER IS THAT WHAT ISLAM SAYS, SIMPLE IS THAT.
IN QURAN IF U KILL AN INNOCENT PERSON (not particular 2 Muslims) MEANS U KILL THE WHOLE HUMANITY.
**ISLAM IS PEACE**
"On that account: We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people. Then although there came to them Our apostles with clear signs, yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land. (The Noble Quran, 5:32)"
ISLAM IS MORE THAN “1400” YEARS OLD RELIGION WHY EXTREMISM IS ASSOCIATED WITH ISLAM NOW & NOT BEFORE? B/C ISSUES LIKE PALESTINE, KASHMIR & CHECHNIA.These all acts are acts of disparity, feeling of deprivation and continuous injustice.

For those who 9:5 in the Quran to claim that Islam is a violent religion.... did you try to read 9:6?
The context of the verse is during battlefield, In order to understand the context, we need to read from verse 1 of this surah. It says that there was a peace treaty between the Muslims and the Mushriqs (pagans) of Makkah. This treaty was violated by the Mushriqs of Makkah. A period of four months was given to the Mushriqs of Makkah to make amends. Otherwise war would be declared against them.
Surah Taubah chapter 9 verse 6 gives the answer to the allegation that Islam promotes violence, brutality and bloodshed. It says:
"If one amongst the Pagans ask thee for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of Allah; and then escort him to where he can be secure that is because they are men without knowledge."
[Al-Qur'an 9:6]
So please don't just quote it without knowing the verse before it or the verse after it, without knowing its interpretation and what it refers to.

Like any religion, it's self-contradictory enough that you can read any interpretation you like into it.
And while it's true that not all Muslims are terrorists, it must also be admitted that, in this day and age, nearly all terrorists (particularly of the suicide bomber variety) are Muslims...
