According to Baptist historian H. Leon McBeth, Baptists, as a distinct denomination, originated in England in a time of intense religious reform. McBeth writes, “Our best historical evidence says that Baptists came into existence in England in the early seventeenth century. They apparently emerged out of the Puritan-Separatist movement in the Church of England.”[12]

Some see the Baptists as the descendants of the 16th century Anabaptists (which some view as a product of the Protestant Reformation and others view as a continuation of the older pre-Reformation non-Catholic churches) and others see them as a separation from the Church of England in the 1600s.[12]

Baptist isn't a religion it's a denomination, which all denominations are made by men and are not of God..... satan is the author of division and confusion, and the church has allowed him to come in and do this....This is one of the main reasons why the church has no power.... But I believe God is raising up a remnant that is doing away with denominations and are going hard after the heart of God...

Christianity itself dates back to the book of Acts (1st Century)
We Baptists are simply a sect of that

Just because John baptized doesn't mean the business-suit wearing rednecks here have any historical claim of continuity.

Christianity goes back to Christ. PROTESTant catholics, including Baptist, PROTEST the "infallible" human POPES' twisting of the gospel truth.

I am a Protestant, ex-RC, but not Baptist, so I have "no Axe to grind" in this question!!!

Unlike such cults as Jehovah's Witness's founder Mr Russell (JW's used to be called Russelites, as Christians were named for Christ) rewrote the bible in places to twist it to his personal opinions.

The same way, Islam, with their "infallible denier of Christ's teachings" Mohamed (a "gods" before Christ/God), and book (Koran) before the Bible!

Protestants, including Baptist are the ones who go to the Bible as there source.

That's why we are mocked as "fundies" often in R&S, because we ONLY trust fundamental bible teachings!!!

The command to "have NO gods before GOD", includes no other "infallible" books before the Bible...like the Christian Science cathecism "The Key to the Scriptures" written by their founder Mary Baker Eddy!

When the emperor of the Holy Roman Empire made Christianity the national religion, back in Constantinople, the truth got slightly corrupted.

The old Catholic church has a man-made catechism that is taken ahead of the Bible to decide matters of theology (wrongly), as if it is the word of God
...like the book of Mormon, and the Koran, etc..

Sorry to offend you RC's and JW's and Radical Islamics, but it is the bible or nothing, in my opinion. Do not add to the Word of God ANY THING!!!

This is NOT going back to Bible times, as Roman Catholic church members pretend!!!

We protestants protest against these man made add-ons. We DO go back to Christ as our only infallible authority!

If RC's really thought the pope was infallible, then why do they have protestant sized families, unlike before pope condemned birth control measures were invented????

Catholics need to take the speck out of their own eyes, instead of trying so hard to change protestants.

The truth is...you can not change any one except your self!!!

Can we just live and let live? God gave men free choice, even to the point of chosing to not go to heaven. Sorry, unbelievers, but you "chose your bed", hell, by refusing to be Goid's servant!!!

Our loving God is falsely accused (and hated) for sending people to hell.
He does not! He only refuses to allow evil in his "home" in heaven...it would not be heaven if evil was there.

I do not believe that God drags you to heaven, kicking and screaming "NO!", if you do not freely chose to serve the almighty God. This is perfectly fair. God is never wrong!
